rainbow:

hello everyone and welcome to fly a queer haikyuu podcast. I'm rainbow and I'm em, and today we are going to be talking about season 1, episode 13 worthy adversaries also known as rivals, rivals in the sub. And you know this is kind of the end of the bringing the team together arc. We're kind of everyone's in place and you know we're kind of at a starting point and now they just need to grow together as a team.

em:

But first, exciting news we have a life update.

rainbow:

We have a baby we have a cute little fire baby. We have our own little cat, her name is kiki kageyama redacted our last names.

rainbow:

Yes, yes, her middle name is kageyama because, of course, obviously, but yeah, she's really cute. We've already posted at least one picture as of this recording and I'm sure we will post a few more. She's so. She's a four month old kitten. She's a little tuxedo cat auxy, and she's just like really sweet and she's so good. Im is really like. Im is kind of the stay-at-home mom. Im works from home and so poor thing has been home with her and it's just like. It's a lot, you know, like kittens, puppies, any kind of baby, anything is going to be a lot of work, but Im has just been like really knocking it out of the park and doing a great job with her, thank you.

em:

Yeah, you know we wanted, we were open to kind of whatever was out there and we just loved her right away and I kind of didn't think too hard about how a kitten is going to be like a baby, just full of energy getting into everything. But I love her so much that she doesn't it doesn't annoy me and really, really she is overall like pretty well behaved. She gets the zoomies, she gets crazy. Last night we was the first night we let her like roam free. Overnight We've been putting her in the bathroom and she's been slowly destroying our bathroom door, but she's been good, so we let her roam free and like in the beginning of the night she, she like jumped and leaped onto our curtain at an impressive height.

rainbow:

Real Hinata levels of air she was getting there.

em:

Yeah, she gets a little crazy, but overall she's well-behaved. She's very loving and trusting, Like she really opened up to us like right away.

rainbow:

Yeah, she is already like she lets us rub her belly. She turns her back on us. With people who don't know cats, when they are like willing to turn their back on you, that means they trust you not to attack them. And you know she does. She kind of like she's interested in the tv and she kind of gets up there. But she's really good about when we say like no, if we snap or clack or make a noise, she's like okay, and she like goes and does something else and she's and she's really gentle with us. She did attack my foot earlier, but that's because the toy was very close to it. Yes, but she's good, she a little hunter, she's just mischievous enough.

em:

I don't have to like super worry about her like making a big mess or hurting herself or getting into things. She's been good with you know, knock on wood but she's been good about the bathroom and eating and like it's just going really well. I think she really fits into the family and we're just over the moon.

rainbow:

Yeah, I was kind of hoping that maybe she would want to meow on mic for us, but I was worried about her like just being all over this recording and doing the most, so I think it's for the best she goes, take a little nap while mommy's work yes, yeah, it'll be good, but, like we said, we'll.

rainbow:

We'll post some pictures on twitter, and maybe you know a cute video or two. she occasionally likes watching tv, so if we ever catch her watching haikyuu, we will definitely send. We'll definitely post a video of that because you know we love her and you know you all will love her too, I'm sure, anyway. So enough about our cat we are lesbians.

em:

I mean we gotta talk about her a little yeah, our little, our little fur baby.

rainbow:

But then more big news came out this week yes, as of this recording, which we're recording on april 13th haikyuu, the movie the battle of the garbage dump officially has international release dates.

rainbow:

and I'm gonna go ahead and just kind of break that down, so there was a crunchy roll news article and a lot of you probably know this, but just in case anyone hasn't actually seen the article, it's being released kind of through May, the end of May and June, internationally. So we've got May 30th it's coming out in Australia, new Zealand, denmark, italy, switzerland, and it says Italian speaking and I don't know if that means it's coming out in the Italian speaking region or if it's just like coming out like Italian dub. It's coming out three different times in Switzerland, so on May 30th it's Switzerland Italian speaking, netherlands, argentina, brazil, costa Rica, el Salvador, guatemala, honduras, argentina, brazil, costa Rica, el Salvador, guatemala, honduras, nicaragua, panama, chile, colombia, ecuador, mexico and Peru. May 31st it's coming out in Canada, finland, ireland, norway, poland, spain, sweden, United Kingdom and the United States and that's where we live, in case that isn't obvious by our accents and, the things we talk about.

rainbow:

already have a countdown on my phone. It's on our shared calendar. As soon as I can possibly buy tickets, I will be buying our tickets. I'm gonna see it. I mean, I want to see it at least twice in theaters, I think, if not more. I'm hoping that our tiny little movie theater here will get it. If not, we'll go to the closest town, the closest city and you know, even if that closest city is an hour and a half away.

rainbow:

I will go that far, seriously. Yeah, that means maybe we'll only watch it once in theaters if it's that far away we'll see.

em:

I'll bring my camcorder and record it. Oh my god honestly, we at we wouldn't never do that. I don't even own a camcorder. What is this? The 90s?

rainbow:

90s, anyway. So that's May 31st and then on June 7th it's coming out in Turkey. Congratulations, turkey. On June 12th it's coming out in Belgium, france, luxembourg and the French speaking part of Switzerland, I guess.

em:

I don't know Switzerland had so many divided speaking places.

rainbow:

Yeah, switzerland, I think Switzerland and Belgium are like, and there's, I think there's a few countries in that area that kind of you know, they have a few different languages because they're all like mixed in together and I'm sure there's history that has led to that. That I wasn't taught, because I was educated in the American Southeast, In the Fire Nation. Yeah, so, yeah, so, switzerland, french speaking. On June 25th it's coming out in Austria and Germany, and then on June 27th it's coming out in Switzerland French speaking. On June 25th it's coming out in Austria and Germany, and then on June 27th it's coming out in Switzerland German speaking.

rainbow:

And again, I don't know, and if anyone knows the answer, please let us know. I don't know if that's if it's coming out in like a certain region of Switzerland or if they're just getting different versions of the dub across the nation. But yeah, so that's it. May 30th through June 27th we will be getting those international release dates. Apologies to anyone who is not living in any of those countries I just mentioned. If you're not getting the Haikyuu dub, I'm sure by that point, by the time it is out in all of those countries, there will be ways for you to watch it online, and we would never encourage anyone to download anything illegally.

em:

You wouldn't steal a pizza, I would never yeah to download anything illegally. You wouldn't steal a pizza, I would never yeah. And then there was a tweet going around, something about, like you know, like going to these theaters and just wondering like who in the audience has blocked you because of your opinion on Kageyama? I'm really excited to see the local Haikyuu crowd, especially like I really do hope it comes out in our little town because that'll be a little more intimate and maybe we'll meet some friends. I wouldn't be mad about it. I want a Haikyuu club.

rainbow:

I would love that. Well, I mean, you know, I hope it kind of has. Like you know, obviously it wouldn't be the same scale as, like when the Barbie movie came out, but I want that similar feel of we're all there and we're in this moment together and we're wearing our merch and, like Em and I have already said, we're gonna have our plushies with us. Like I'm so excited and like our our local movie theater people are gonna be like what is happening?

em:

yeah, it'll be interesting to see the turnout. I think you know there will be some because I remember I mean we live in like a town with a lot of young people in it and I, they, we have like a summertime kind of like event thing and I'll never like. My favorite part about it was we randomly came upon an anime stand and the person had like Haikyuu stuff. So like they're there, I know it, and we're going to meet them Absolutely Well and I remember like there's this thing that happens.

rainbow:

I think it kind of happens a lot called Ghibli Fest where they release Studio Ghibli movies just in movie theaters.

rainbow:

We went to a couple of them last year, we're going to go to some other ones this year and, like, quite a few people came out for that. Actually, when we went to the Howl's Moving Castle one, do you remember, there was a girl who was cosplayed as Sophie, but like Sophie at the end of the movie, with her short gray hair, yeah, and I thought that was pretty cool. So I mean, it's got to happen.

em:

I hope there's a nerdy turnout like that. I want to see some cosplayers. Yeah, that's always the fucking best when you can just be total nerds and experience this thing together that you're all excited about, and maybe we'll meet some fans. That would be fucking wild. I'm sure we won't.

rainbow:

Well, most people don't know what we look like, so I guess they could hear that. I guess, if they hear the sound of our voices or they see us with our plushies- yeah, like, hey, rainbow, let's take a seat.

em:

Just be really obnoxious.

rainbow:

Yeah. So we're really excited and you know, for all the people who have already gotten to watch the movie, congratulations. I'm not jealous at all, but we're just really excited that, like all of us, will get to experience it and I honestly I didn't know it was going to happen this quickly. I thought maybe it would take a little bit longer, but I think the popularity of it.

em:

I think the reception has been really good and I just I I hope that it continues to do well internationally and that this will mean like more serious takes on Haikyuu in the future and that they'll really give us what we need a fleshed out, finished animated story and I do kind of love.

rainbow:

It's kind of it's like a fun coincidence that like we're getting all of this haiku movie news as we're talking about Nekoma and Karasuno like having their first match together. I just that that, just you know it's all working out, the stars are aligning, because this is like this episode we're talking about today is kind of the end of the first Nekoma Karasuno match and the battle of the garbage dump is the entire movie and it's just, it's perfect. So, yeah, anything else for our chit chat? no, we can move on to housekeeping okay, so just a couple things.

rainbow:

as we've talked about so many times at this point are you sick of hearing about it? We are doing our q a episode. It's going to be coming out next week. we plan to record it later this week, as of this recording, so, so when will they expect it to come out? It will come out next monday. Okay, so that will be. I'm not even going to try to find the date because I'll do that wrong anyway.

rainbow:

So, if you're listening to this recording, the day it comes out the following week, the q and a episode will be coming out and it'll be called q a episode. You'll see it. So we are taking like we're skipping a week of like actual Haiku recaps, because, like I said at the beginning, this is kind of the end of an arc and we're transitioning into the inter high prelims. It's a good time for a little intermission. Yeah, it's a good little intermission. And then, you know, but we'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming the next two weeks. so don't worry, and if you're not interested in listening to the Q&A episode, feel free to skip it.

em:

We'll be OK with that, you know, to give a little preview we'll probably be talking about fan fiction, fandom us a little bit, our opinions on things. So I mean, I think it will be interesting, but I also understand if you're like get to the episode, you queers.

rainbow:

So you know well, if not, no hard feelings. Yeah, absolutely. If you're just here to talk about the volleyball, I don't know why you're listening to this podcast, but you know, we'll be back to that, shortly. And then I just wanted to make a quick note. I think I mentioned it, but today that we are recording is April 13th, and we're talking about episode 13, and that's just another fun little. It's all aligning, baby, it's all aligning.

rainbow:

Yeah, I guess I haven't I don't know if I've really said this, but like I am a practicing witch and so I do like those kinds of like things. It just it feels nice, even if it doesn't have any like real, like meaning. I don't think it's the universe speaking to us, but for me it just gives me a little joy and it makes me. I don't know, that to me is magical, and you know, magic is what you make it. So that's beautiful. Thank you, I appreciate that. Okay, so I think we're done with housekeeping, unless you have anything you want to add. No, the house is clean, all right. So it's time for the recap and it's my turn. Give it to us, baby ready. No, I actually wrote this out completely.

em:

Let's see how this goes all right, I'll count you down three, two one.

rainbow:

It's still nekoma versus karasuno, but now that the cats have gotten to know the crows better, their defense is locked in and Karasuno can't seem to get ahead. We see just how perfect Nekoma and Karasuno are as rivals, but we also see just how far Karasuno has to go to be a complete team. After the game, each player bonds with their counterparts, while the coaches both encourage each other and talk shit. Hinata tells kenma he's going to make him love volleyball, and kagehina bond over their hatred of losing and desire to stay on the court. It's the end of an arc as the team heads into the inter high prelims. Very nice, I was pretty proud of that that's very good.

em:

Writing it out is the way to go, I think I think so too, you know.

rainbow:

Thank you to all of you people who said I don't care, do whatever you want.

em:

When it comes to the recaps, because I enjoy that freedom. This episode is so interesting and we'll get into this, because we'll get way more game heavy pretty soon. Because, like the first half, when I was watching it and just writing down my notes, I felt like a sportscaster. It's like okay, okay, this one did the free quick. Now he blocked it, like it's very fast paced.

rainbow:

So yeah, the first half of this episode is finishing up the nekoma game. Well, in my first note is daichi cover.

em:

Yes, yeah, we're jumping right into it where hinata and kageyama are still trying they're like softer, quick and it's not quite hitting, but they've got the support of their other teams and they're they're scratching to try and keep up with nekoma.

rainbow:

They're not far behind, but they are behind yeah, and I have a note here about tanaka's kind of talking hinata through a block that they're doing. Yes, he's such a good senpai and I love that. It's like they are like tanaka is just like he's very like cognizant of the fact that hinata is still learning and he's teaching him and that's just he's so good. I think I can't remember if somebody says the term vicious rivalry when talking about Hinata and Inuoka or if I just said vicious rivalry in my head, but this is, this episode is very much like Hinata and Inuoka kind of like going for each other.

em:

And I love that. I really love Grandpa Nekoma's commentary.

rainbow:

He's got the best commentary and in this episode, you know, he kind of outlines how they're pushing each other to be better. Yeah, absolutely yeah. And so we're just really seeing them play and we kind of get to see a lot of like background stuff happening on the court. Like I feel like a lot of the like we're hearing voiceover from the coaches where they're talking about the team, but we're kind of getting to see like how the team teammates like interact on the court. Like we see kageyama and hinata talking and it's not their usual like bickering. It's like kageyama kind of like telling, like giving instruction to hinata, and hinata really listening, and I just love that like how they communicate. Like when they're really focused, like all of that other shit goes away. And it's about the game and it's about like, how are we getting the next point?

em:

yeah, I do love to watch their volleyball relationship like at its height and yeah, it's not just bickering like and it is. It's kind of like these quiet moments of respect of Kageyama is kind of a mentor as well for Hinata, because yeah, he gives these pointers and Hinata just listens intently and takes it all in, because at the end of the day, no matter how they might feel about each other personally, they have the same exact goal and that's what they're just such a good team. I'm gonna scream, a quick, pause here. Our neighbor just decided to play really loud music. and we you can kind of hear it when we're not talking, but I think us talking over it will be okay. if you do hear it, I apologize, but I this has been a thing for the past few days where they play music for a few hours in the afternoon and we're not gonna wait that out.

rainbow:

So and that's just apartment living for you, baby. You know that's how it goes we. You know it's not like we have a studio to record in yeah, you know, and I mean, we've had background noise before of like the dog barking and stuff and honestly the music isn't terrible. So it could be worse. just think of it as like a nice mood setting. I'm gonna beat them up later.

em:

Okay, anyway, again going back to, grandpa nekoma and his great observations. he said he notes you know they're doing their best, but the whole theme of this episode is like Karasuno has a lot of potential. And Nekoma notes you know, once this little number 10 really hones his skill, they won't be a demon in his iron club anymore. There'll be a demon and another demon. And then there's that really cool shot of Kageyama and Hinata just kind of like looking over their shoulders back at you all badass like.

rainbow:

I think. I even have a screenshot of it and I'll try to remember to post it in the episode thread when I post this episode, because I just love it. It's one of those, like Hinata looking intense and scary moments where it's just like, oh, this is how he, this is why other teams are afraid of him.

em:

Yes, I love when they do their intimidating shit because they're so goofy in real life, but on the court they, they are quite the monsters.

rainbow:

Yes, oh god they're so. All the characters are so good, but Kagahina especially, are just so interesting. we have, we have like a moment where, like, noya saves the ball or no, no, like I think, hinata gets hit in the face again he sure does.

rainbow:

And then noya covers and he, he kind of, he bumps it so that tanaka can spike it, and spike tanaka has like a whole fucking little monologue about how like it's not just the ace who can get through the blocks which I'm realizing now is definitely like because of yamamoto, because yamamoto had something about like I'm the ace of nekoma and I'll get it through, and Tanaka's like bitch, I'll get it through too. And then Tanaka and Noya are just like being so stupid. I just love them. They're like yes, yes, yes, yes, they're doing like a little dance and it's just like I love you, you stupid idiots.

em:

And then yeah, and Hinata gets one touch on Inuoka and Nekoma. Grandpa says they push each other's abilities to new heights. They are indeed rivals.

rainbow:

Yes, and in when he's saying that it cuts to it kind of does like like side by sides of kind of like I guess who you could consider to be like each of their parallels on the team and like their matchup.

rainbow:

So I have that written down, if I can give you that list. So we have Daichi and Kai, and we don't really talk about Kai too much in this episode. He's the number two, he's another third year, he's kind of like he's got a little bit of darker skin and like a shaved head. So it's Daichi and Kai because I think they're both wing spikers. And then tanaka and yamamoto, who are also both wing spikers, and I think we we already know this that tanaka is the future ace of karasuno. Like when asahi leaves, tanaka will take that place. and then yamamoto is the current ace of karasuno or of nekoma. And then we have noya and yaku, of course, because they're Libros, and then we have Kageyama and Kenma as the setters and also just complete opposites.

em:

Yes.

rainbow:

And then we have Hinata and Inuoka, who are both middle blockers.

em:

And I think that also, like that quote alone is really wraps up like a lot of the relationships in Haikyuu, and I just feel like rivalry is like this metaphor for love and, yes, it is the volleyball love language.

rainbow:

Well, it is almost like a form of like love. There's like love and respect baked into rivalry. It's not like it's like being somebody's rival is different from being somebody's enemy. Yes, because rivals.

rainbow:

I think the biggest difference, too, is rivals push each other to be better yeah, it's not about like an enemy is like I have to defeat them because I want to defeat them, whereas a rival is like I want to defeat them because it means I will have bettered myself, exactly. Yeah, so very interesting. And kageyama is like, you know, very frustrated in this episode because they keep trying those soft tosses, and they just aren't getting them. And you can tell kageyama is so like and it's interesting because, like he's not frustrated at hinata, he seems more frustrated with himself that he can't get it, which is growth kageyama will always, I think, knows when, to take responsibility for him as his role as the setter.

em:

And so the rotation brings us to kuro in the front and you they.

rainbow:

The dub is very funny in this moment okay, yeah, so because Kuro comes in front of Hinata and then Hinata says like, he says something like when lanky mix spike head rotates to the back, rooster head rotates up front, he's like, I don't mind lanky, but this guy's kind of scary, like talking about Kuro, because Kuro is, like you know, for all the talk of, like Oikawa, being, you know, anime's greatest villain. Kuro gives such villain vibes. Yeah, like just the way he looks, his presence, his like deep voice, he like call. What does he say? Oh, he calls. In the dub he calls Hinata small fry and he says something about like he's complimenting him too. He's just like, oh, you know, like you could keep up with Inuoka, that's pretty cool Small Fry, and Inuoka's like who you calling Small Fry?

em:

Small Fry, which is crazy to call Kuro Small Fry. Yeah, kuro really embodies this, like he is like the cool experienced senior. Yes, you know, he's kind of just amused at them and not really razzled and yeah, really razzled. And yeah, it will get more of that in season two and we can talk about that in the spoiler zone. especially like we get a little moment with him and tsuki at the end where he's just this like cool senpai dude.

rainbow:

well it is funny because, like you know, you know full disclosure. I just recently listened to the rough cut of episode I think it was 11 and we talk about how much of a loser kuro is, and I think it's one of those things where, like, their personalities on the court and off the court can sometimes be so different because, you're right, like on the court Kuro is so cool, but off the court he's just like a loser simp well, he's a loser for Kenma specifically, you know, and and that's kind of how they all are in some way or another.

em:

yeah, and so, with Kuro up front, kageyama pulls Hinata, yanks him aside and tells him to switch back to their freak quick instead of the soft one. And Hinata's too cute, he's like complaining, he's like, oh, I was just getting a hang of the soft one. And Kageyama's like, well, that's too bad, because he Kageyama again, his volleyball intelligence is a five and Kuro is an experienced, good middle blocker who will have no problem stopping their soft one. But the freak one is such a crazy one that you know and he's right, I think that works, yeah absolutely.

rainbow:

I also like I think Hinata gets hit in the face again in this episode and like I've just lost count of how many times Hinata has been hit in the face in this show. Even in this episode alone, I think it's been twice. It could have been more than that. Like he is just constantly getting balls to his face. He loves it.

em:

That's definitely not an entendre, never, but yeah. So even though he does get that free quick pass, kuro Nekoma stays sharper. Kenma is constantly switching things up on him. He's pulling out cider dumps, he's pulling out back attacks, like Karasuno has to stay on their toes.

rainbow:

Yeah, absolutely. I have a note here about loving to loving getting to see Nekoma's little tricks we're really kind of seeing and again, because it's and I think they talk about this in later, like much later, maybe even not until the garbage dump battle, or maybe like an OVA or something that, like Nekoma is a team that, like it take they take a minute to really pull together and figure out, like figure out exactly how they're there. They need to figure out, like figure out exactly how they're they're, they need to figure out their defense and their strategy.

rainbow:

but once, once they do, they are solid and they are tough to beat yes and so and I love that I also have a note about noya taking note of yaku's receive.

em:

Yaku like receives I think it's probably a spike from asahi and noya just has like a moment where he's like oh no, he knows that Asahi is not easy to to get, you know, pickups on, and so he definitely knows that Yaku is nothing to play with. And this brings us to this moment of, the comparison that Nekoma is a fully mature cat versus a baby raven. And I think this is true for the teams and also the coach, because, there's a moment where, like it's really tight and ukai looks over at grandpa nekoma and he is very like cool and relaxed and he kind of says, like I'm a jerk cat, indeed, meanwhile, like ukai's going crazy, like they're, they're just, you know they're they are, they're little babies, they're they're the first time really coming together as a team yeah, and ukai has like an evil laugh and like an evil face in this where he's just like, oh, we're gonna get he's so fired up.

em:

It's like the fires of rivalry, yeah, well he recognizes that they're not a match for nekoma quite yet, and he's like well, that only leaves us one thing to do, and it's just to attack relentlessly yeah, I think in the dub he has a line all we can do is persist and I was like that should be on karasuno's banner. They are so persistent?

rainbow:

yes, very much so, and it's just so cute because, I think it's Hinata, that's like you look kind of villainous right now, and ukai's like well, crows are kind of villainous, like it's just ridiculous yeah, I think in the dub he says something of like like we're like the, we're like the crows at the gates of hell, or maybe he says that later in the episode, but he says something like that that I just love. And, yeah, like ukai does like have like a demon face and I think that kind of like isn't that something they said about grandpa ukai?

em:

with that he was like the demon crow coach or something probably, and also like this rivalry with Nekoma, I think, especially just brings it out in them yes, and then, the and you know, karasuno is like they're catching up to Nekoma and they're like, oh, we can get the next point.

rainbow:

I think they're like one behind and they're about to be tied, and then Kenma just dumps, just does a setter dump? Just like it's nobody's business. He's so cool.

em:

But now they have Karasuno has their strongest lineup for defense. They've got Asahi and Hinata up front, and Asahi slams it over, but they still receive it, and Nakamata again with the banger lines. As long as the ball is still in play, we haven't lost, which is a reflective of the very first episode.

rainbow:

Kagehina says that themselves and really I think is a big part of Nakama and Nakamata's philosophy on volleyball is, like you know, the most important thing you can do, like your flashy spikes and your attacks are one thing, but the most important thing you can do is keep the ball off the floor and that's what nekoma is perfect at. Yes, going back to asahi and hinata being in the front row, like that's like their most powerful offense and like that's awesome, like it's really cool that hinata is like he is just like he in his own way, and like being a decoy like makes that like powerful, makes him powerful in that way, like you know, puts him not quite on the same level as the ace, but, like you know, it means that like that's trouble. It's trouble when both of them are up there.

em:

Yeah, there's a level of, because Asahi is like the reliable powerhouse, but Hinata is like you never know. Is it going to be the freak quick? Is he just going to be a decoy Like it is? It is very intimidating.

rainbow:

And he only like, he only gets like more powerful as he goes on and he learns more tricks and there's more things he can do to where it gets to the point where it's just like who knows what Hinata is going to do next.

em:

Okay, and where it's just like who knows what Hinata is gonna do next, okay. And then we get into a Kagehina moment that I love. hinata is in the fucking zone and like they kind of have this like pause, as he's like rushing past Kageyama and he goes. This aura, I recognize it from the first time I met him. There's nothing he wants more than that ball out in front of him.

rainbow:

Yes, I love that, and this is not the last. I don't think it's the first time or the last time Kageyama will comment on this intensity that Hinata gets, especially like once they've been in a game for a while.

em:

Yes, and it's the way that Hinata, you know, kind of almost steals the tosses from Kageyama, because he also says, like you know, his energy is reading I'm here, give me the ball. And Kageyama can't help but give it to him.

rainbow:

Yes, yeah, absolutely. And so I think Hinata like spikes the ball and he gets it, but I think, like Yaku gets it.

em:

He does get it over, but Nekoma's receives are just too strong and they do. That's like the end of the game. They do end up winning the game.

rainbow:

Well, I want to talk about that moment, because Kenma is the last person to touch the ball and it goes over. So I think it's like Yaku receives it but it goes into the net, and then Kai hits it, but then it's still not going over and then Kenma dives for it. And I kind of have a note like is this unusual? Like it's not commented on, but like do we think that, like Kenma dove for the ball like that, because it's this game with Hinata and he like does kind of have that, that drive, or do you think that's something he would have done regardless of who they were playing?

em:

I do think it's specifically Karasuno and Kagehina that are drawing this out, because we'll keep seeing that and I just I think Kenma just finds Hinata specifically, but probably the whole team, very interesting.

rainbow:

Yeah, I agree, and so, yeah, that's kind of the the game ends or this this game ends. And I think ukai maybe has like a comment of Nekoma has trained as a team, not just as individuals.

em:

Yes, he, says, which I love Because he says like they. Karasuno did really good. They didn't really make a lot of mistakes, but Nekoma is a well-honed team yes.

rainbow:

And then Hinata asks for one more game. Yes, immediately of course. And Nekomata is like of course I was going to suggest that too. And then it's kind of like a quick montage of them like playing over and over again and nekoma continuing to win.

em:

I I will have more to say about this, probably even in season two, but I think nekomata would have been a really great mentor for hinata, because I think that nekomata understands hinata in a way that maybe ukai doesn't at first, especially with all the shit that goes down in season two, like it's too bad that he doesn't have more of a role, almost, but it's fine, I want a Nekoma Hinata fic now where Hinata, like, moves to Tokyo and ends up going to Nekoma, and what do you think that would be like?

em:

Yeah, I think that'd be fascinating.

rainbow:

yeah, so they play again. And then Hinata again asks for one more at the end of the night.

em:

And this time Nekomata is like do you still have energy? You've been bouncing all over the place yes, they've been playing for hours, it seems and like Hinata's just like unhingedly asking like one more because they haven't won a single one.

rainbow:

And even Kageyama like swivels around and looks at him, which I love that, like you know, hinata continues to out monster Kageyama just like an infinitesimal amount, but it's just enough where even kageyama is like jesus dude yeah, really, it's like, and I think you guys like they have a train to catch, like you guys have been working hard all night, like, and even I think if they, even if they had let them play another game, like even hinata, I don't think would have had the energy to actually keep going well none of them would and this is another example of hinata ignoring probably his physical needs, because he's just all he can focus on is one more game, moi kai.

rainbow:

And then we get and you know, I don't remember this really happening in a lot of other practice matches where ukai goes to talk to Nekoma and Nekomata goes to talk to Karasuno and Nekomata like kind of gives them a little background on. Like coach ukai, you know his rival. Yeah, grandpa ukai this.

em:

This episode is really like the generations of rivals, because it's the grandpas, it's ukai and the other coach, and then the kids.

em:

Now it's it's fascinating, and nekomata says a good rival is hard to find. He like helps karasuno. You know they're very strong, but he specifically calls out kage hina and he just tells them to to practice connection and that they have overwhelming potential. But you know, I think, I think the coach is switching too. I just think that, like Nekoma and Karasuno have like a special relationship and they genuinely want to make each other better. So I think I like that they switch and like talk, and that might happen in other games too.

rainbow:

But well, because I think you you kind of get a flashback to when Coach ukai, grandpa ukai, has to call Nekomata and tell him he's retiring, and Nekomata is like, well, you know, I'm sure we'll both still have no trouble finding other teams to practice with. And that's not true. They both start like they don't have as many practice matches, they both go into this decline and so I'm sure, for Nekomata, like getting kind of Karasuno back, I wonder if, like maybe there was some hesitancy, because, like you know, they talk about a little bit later in the episode how Takada had to keep calling Nekomata and even like threatened to go there in person to bug him, and I wonder if maybe there was some part of Nekomata that was like, well, it won't be the same if that, you know, if ukai isn't there yeah and then, and I wonder if you know, like you guys, grandson being the coach was like, well then, I can still have that, like I still have that connection.

em:

Well, and it's so funny because I'm skipping ahead just a little bit, Like when they're all saying their goodbyes like Grandpa Nakamata kind of razzes, you, Kai and he's like I can't help it. He looks just like that old geezer which, again, you guys were ex loversvers. Don't even look at me yeah, you can't tell me.

rainbow:

They're not ex, maybe even current.

em:

Well, who knows yeah, neither of them seem to have wives. No one in this show seems to have wives, and that's why we're here on a queer podcast, and then nekomata says, like you know, he's looking forward to seeing them on that stage.

rainbow:

The battle at the garbage dump yes, I will say the dub does ruin it and they call it the trash can and it's like that's stupid. The trash can. Yeah, I don't know if that's a mouth flap thing or just like again them not caring as much, but it is the battle of the garbage dump and you know, because both cats and crows hang around garbage dumps, yeah, and so then we just kind of get like the team, like the both of the teams interacting with each other.

em:

Yeah, this part is is really fun.

rainbow:

Yes, we have to talk about Yamamoto and Tanaka, because they bond over their obsession, because, like, yamamoto approaches Tanaka and Tanaka's like oh, you want to fight. And then Yamamoto's just like no, I'd like to know. He's like I would like to inquire about the name of your manager. And Tanaka's like how?

rainbow:

dare you you'll know, are you gonna try to make a move on here? He like immediately like goes into pharaoh mode. And then Yamamoto's like oh no, no, I'm much too. I'm too much of a coward. She's too pretty, I couldn't possibly. And then Tanaka is just like it recognizes himself in Yamamoto and it's just like Kyoko, kyoko, shizumi well, I love that.

em:

That's what they bond over is that they're both too chicken shit to actually, or they have, like, oh, such a respect for her beauty, or whatever the fuck you want to call it.

rainbow:

That's what they they bond over ultimately is that they're both loser sims for this girl that they can't even talk to her oh well, and and did this happen in the sub, where tanaka's like, oh man, but being rejected by her is the best thing ever and and it's just like you're such you, you are a little sub, tell me you're not. And yeah, and so they just immediately and I think even Tanaka calls him like brother, he's like, he's like you're pretty cool brother, it's just like I love them and like this again, like it. I just sometimes Tanaka and even Yamamoto, like they say things and I'm like this is Sokka from Avatar the Last Airbender, like if there was a crossover which, oh my god, that would be I wonder we should do that for Hu and Haikyuu sometime, where, instead of like Hu and Haikyuu Avatar Edition, but like Avatar the Last Airbender, what positions would they play and what? Who would?

em:

they get along with. Yeah, seriously.

rainbow:

Yeah, so we have that, and then we have kageyama and kenma.

em:

And then we have what I call an incompatibility of neurodivergency here, because kageyama is like creepily in the background, muttering like these questions of like how he is doing these setter things, because kenma is an impressive fucking setter, even though he's not flashy. But you know, kageyama doesn't know how to talk to people and he's being weird and scary about it. And Kenma like kind of looks over his shoulder and then runs away and Kageyama is like, oh, this poor boy, he wasn't trying to scare him, he just is, he's just so intense.

rainbow:

Well, and Kenma remembers what Hinata said about his set, or he has that flashback and he's like Shouyou was right, he is really intense, and then he runs away. But like I feel like there's an obvious respect from Kageyama for Kenma, like that's why he's like. He's like I want to know, he's like I can learn from you, but Kenma's like I cannot stand this.

em:

Yes, that's great. And then we have Hinata and Inuoka just jumping at each other, jumping with joy.

rainbow:

They're little puppies.

em:

they're just little excitable puppies and they're both, like you know like inuoka's like hinata you're so cool and so fast and hinata's like inuoka you're so big and you're so strong and like you're so cool, and they're just like, just like, just love bombing each other yes it's so beautiful yeah, and then tsukishima's like kind of watching this from afar and is like losers, and then this is where we get kuro yeah, and he says something like you should try to have some fun every once in a while, yeah he was like, oh yeah, he goes like they don't act like they're in high school, but you could loosen up a little bit. And tsuki's like, yeah, whatever, and walks away. And then kuro goes ah, youth, as if he's not like 17 well, that's so funny, so that's in the sub.

rainbow:

in the dub he just like what a cranky old man. He basically compares Tsukishima to an old man and I love that. That's funny. And then we have Noya just staring at Yaku yes.

em:

Yaku is standing with Suga and he's like what is happening? And Noya's just staring at him intensely. And then all of a sudden he's there and he gives him his flowers. Basically he he's like I've never seen a Libro kind of like face off against our ace like this and like Nekom is a strong team and you're a strong Libro. And he's like, basically you know that volleyball love language of like I'll keep getting better and not lose to you. And then he just like runs away, which is uncharacteristically, I think, a little awkward for him, but it's hilarious. And then Suga's like don't just run away after that.

rainbow:

Well, I think Noya has maybe a little crush on Yaku. I think that's what it is. I don't think it's like. I don't. You know, I don't necessarily ship them, although I think that's a valid ship, but I think it's just a little like he like admires him and he's probably just like I don't, I don't know how to talk and that's something with Noya, because Noya is so cool and I don't think Noya often like really has people to look up to that way and so I don't think he's like used to this and so, yeah, he just is adorable.

rainbow:

He's like you know. It kind of reminds me this is honestly embarrassing when I was in like high school or maybe I was in college anyway, I was working, I worked at this arcade and there was this guy there and I thought he was cute and we would like talk sometimes and like I like decided I was gonna like ask him if he wanted to like hang out sometime, and I just like went up to him and I was like, hey, do you want to like hang out like outside of work sometime? And and you know that that would be cool and he was like, yeah, sure, and I was like, okay, cool, and then I just walked away and like we didn't exchange numbers or anything and nothing ever came of it because I had just run away. You're adorable.

em:

I never heard that story before. No, that's true. But you're right, that is very crush behavior. Right before they get into all these little talking and shit, there's like a very tiny moment where kagehina are cleaning up the gym and I don't know what the dub says, but in the sub he's like you turd, and then he's just like you crap, like give it a rest yeah, I think in the dub it's just, I think like kagehina like calls him a turd and then he just says like no, you turd yeah, they are just because they're like.

rainbow:

I think they're like putting the net up or something, and it's just like they're just so dumb and like I want to know, like, do you think one of them was pulling too hard, or something?

rainbow:

I just think they argue over any fucking thing, and I'm yeah I'm sure Kageyama was annoyed about how Hinata was taking down the net or something stupid like that. yeah, and so then we kind of move on from the players to the coaches and I think we talked a little bit about this how like yeah, how nekomata like really kind of gives takada his flowers for being so persistent and is like you made this happen and he's like really looking forward to it, and then he has like that moment with ukai. Yes, he looks too much like that geezer.

rainbow:

And then this is where. And then ukai is like next time we'll get them. Then Takeda's like wait, you said you were only going to be the coach through the Nekoma game, what about now? And you guys, like you think I'm just going to take that lying down. He's like no, we have to get stronger now. And he has like his demon face and oh, I just love it.

em:

You guys so cool well, yeah, no, you guys officially sticking around and we can thank the Nekoma rivalry for that yes, okay, and then we have the official so now.

rainbow:

So that's why they're cleaning up in the gym and then they're all outside saying their official goodbyes and and kuro and daichi shake each other's hands and try to crush each other while while smiling politely in their faces yes, and then, like suga and yaku are watching this and they're just like you guys, what the fuck?

rainbow:

you're being so weird. And then it turned, and then behind them, ukai and then the other coach from Nekoma are having their own weird little like smile, shaking hands, stare off, and Suga and Yaku are like not these guys too. And it's so funny because, like you don't usually think of Suga as like the straight man.

em:

But no, here, here he's just like embarrassed about his whole team.

rainbow:

Yeah there's, and Yaku too, who I feel like they're both like the like. You know, they're the ones I which, I just thought about this. But often we see suga like punching people to like get them in line, and I think yaku kicks people to get them in line. So that's another fun little like. They're little, they're fun little opposites. Yeah. And then we see like yamamoto and tanaka are like crying and they're like until we see each other again, comrade, so ridiculous.

em:

And then we have our little ken hina moment at the end, where hinata approaches kenma and he's like how did you feel about winning? And ken was like that's, you know, he's just unbothered, doesn't care whatever. And hinata vows like next time I'm gonna, I'm gonna make it so hard for you that you're you're gonna say anything, but whatever, you're either gonna be like ah, that was so hard or, ah, we won.

rainbow:

Like I'm gonna make you give a shit and that's a threat and a promise yeah, I think maybe even in the manga he says something like you're gonna say that volleyball is fun?

em:

yes, definitely and then Kenma's response is interesting.

rainbow:

He's like I'm looking forward to it yes, he like takes that challenge and he's like, okay, bet, yeah, we'll see it. And so and this is interesting and I think, because it's kind of the end of the arc, then we go into like the ending theme and then we kind of have like a little post-credit moment yes, where?

em:

I think it's Kageyama who points out like if that was a real game, we would have been over in one match. And then you know they both Kageyama gets this like determined.

rainbow:

Look on their faces well, and they both flash back to when they lost in middle school and they like, they're both just like yeah, we would have lost, and you guys like yeah, I'm glad that you're. You're aware of that. We have some training to do because the inner high prelims are right around the corner, so let's go train and then it has that great like image of like the team being like yeah, and they're all together and they've got those determined looks and it's just great, it's so exciting, yes, and so now this brought you got interested in talking about the openings and the endings and how they've been changing kind of through the arcs yeah, well, okay, so this is something you know.

rainbow:

The first, the very first time I watched I noticed this and this is very common in anime where, like, different seasons will have different opening and ending themes that very much like reflect what's happening in the show, and Haikyuu does this very much with like arcs. So these first 13 episodes have the same opening and ending, and then it changes after this because they're going into a new arc. So I kind of like went through and I kind of broke them down. I looked up the English translations of the lyrics as well, because some of them are very interesting, and so I want to talk a little bit about just like things that I saw in both the opening and the ending, like different, like visuals that I thought was very, that were interesting, and then I have some lyric highlights I want to discuss.

em:

Give it to me. I'm going to be the audience insert and I'm going to react to this okay.

rainbow:

So just kind of for the opening, which is imagination by spy air, it's kind of starts with kagehina, kind of training alone, and then they're joined by the rest of the team, and it kind of shows. It kind of flips through everyone doing what they do best. It shows, you know, suga setting and Noya receiving and Asahi spiking and I think even Daichi receiving, and there's lots of like sweat, you know, kind of like close-ups of like a bead of sweat dropping down somebody's face. We get to see the freak quick with the eyes closed, and kind of towards the end we see like the, the little giant, standing on stage in his uniform, and we see him from the back and then it flips to Hinata from the front, kind of standing in the same position, and we see that in a lot of these openings. I'll kind of point it out every time we see it and I think I want to do this at the end of like every arc, you know, before the opening and ending changes, because I think it's very interesting.

rainbow:

And you know, we see ukai in this one, and it's kind of interesting because, like when I first watched it, like watching the opening was so fascinating, especially in like the first, like two or three episodes, when you're like, wait, who's that guy with the blonde hair? Wait, who's that short guy with the blonde hair? Wait, who's that short guy with the blonde streak in his hair? Wait, who's that guy? and so that's pretty interesting. And then the last shot is the whole team together, and I've seen this screenshot featured, like I've seen it a lot on twitter, I think in a lot of times when I've seen articles that are like here are the 10 best sports anime of all time and like here's haikyuu and it's this like picture. It's also what we use, for the banner on our website and it's just the whole team, you know everybody from season one. Just like there, I think it's like Hinata's like up in the air spiking and Kageyama and then like everyone, just like in the background, and so I really love that and, of course, so much crow imagery everywhere lots of crow, lots of flying in that one.

rainbow:

Not a lot of sun imagery in this one, although that comes up, I think, in a lot of later openings. and then I just wanted to talk through some lyric highlights, and these are just. I looked up the English translations online, so they might not be super accurate, it might not be a perfect translation, but I just wanted to talk about a few of the things that we see here. So one of them is what challenges will we face this summer, mr future? which I thought was interesting. And then, no matter when, no matter who, wanting to stand there, even if it's wrong, even if it's frustrating, keep on struggling, never give up. I don't want to end like this, which I really liked. This one is so funny and like I have to imagine that these songs were written for haikyuu. Yeah, u for these openings, especially because of this line, I wanted an unex and an unexpected excitement, something that filled my heart, like gwah. That's literally in the lyrics oh yeah, no, this has to be specifically for the show.

rainbow:

Yeah, it has to be, and I think that is pretty common in anime. I think they do get like bands to do and like Spire, and then the other, the end song, the band that does that. They both have done a couple different opening and ending theme songs, and then there's bumping, tumbling, wanting to be stronger, being stubborn, standing up and I repeat that again, that's Hinata Very much. And then, since the time I lost, the next has begun, even if the taste is bitter and acerbic now baby someday.

em:

Surely the now baby was interesting. I was like, okay, yeah, it sounds like Hinata's talking to Kageyama, just wait.

rainbow:

So that is, that's the opening, and I kind of I kind of want to take note of this because I think sometimes a little bit, I think the openings are a little bit more Hinata, but I think sometimes the endings kind of focus a little bit more on Kageyama For sure. So the ending is Tenshi Gaeshi by Nico Touches the Wall, and Nico Touches the Wall has my favorite. This is not my favorite song, this particular one, but there's another song that they do the ending for that is my favorite song from Haikyuu and I can't wait to talk about that one.

rainbow:

But some of the like visuals that we get in this are Hinata standing on, alone on the court, and it's actually him in his middle school jersey standing alone, like looking down after his loss.

rainbow:

But then this the court slowly starts filling. First it's just like shadows and silhouettes, but then they, like it turns into his teammates from karasuno and so just showing like him going from being alone to being surrounded by teammates, and there's even, like it cuts to like an image of kageyama just kind of looking like sad, which I thought was interesting. Maybe he's supposed to be looking angry, but to me he looked sad, but then again it shows like the whole team and then there's, hinata is like running along and he's running and he's crying, but then he like wipes his tears away and his tears dries up and he approaches his team and he runs by them and then, like kageyama stands up and chases after him and then everyone else starts like running after him and I really like that,, and then we have some lyric highlights. I wonder what I could use as an example to explain this to you, this feeling, this distance, if we believed in love. I wonder if we could, if we could avoid strife in all feelings, all distance, yeah.

em:

chat. What the fuck is this?

rainbow:

excuse me if we believed in love, and then, upon a field of solitude, I take a deep breath and let myself get carried away by the wind that feels like it's kageyama to hinata yes, yes, that's this, that's what I'm saying. This feels like it's kageyama, and then this one, a sad color, is in the sky, but I only wanted my feelings to reach one person completely, even with you so far okay, what?

em:

where is their a03 account? What is this? This is so romantic. I had no idea it was that romantic?

rainbow:

I didn't either. I honestly had no idea. I'd never really looked up the English lyrics. So I'm really excited to do this more. So we will do this, like I said at the end of kind of every arc so we'll do this again.

rainbow:

I think episode 25 is the last episode in season one, and so we will. We'll talk about the opening and the ending for that, because again we get a new song and we get like new animation for that, so I'm very excited. So, yeah, any any other comments, discussions, super gay can't believe.

em:

The opening and closing are love letters between kagehina.

rainbow:

That's wild I and you know what I have naruto. I've seen a lot of people talk about those opening and endings, especially in shippuden, and how like a lot of like the lyrics for those are like seem very much like love letters between sasuke and naruto. So I think that I, you know, maybe the people who wrote these songs see what we see as well right and it's like again.

em:

I just have these moments where I get so I can't believe people who like hate on. You know you don't have to. You know you don't have to make it gay. You don't have to make it chippy. It's like buddy, it's just sitting right there Like they didn't have to make the rivalry.

rainbow:

So romantic coded. You know what I mean and also it's like you know you. You don't have to see it the way we see. Don't want us to be happy.

em:

Crazy. We don't really have much dub versus sub or manga versus anime, so that kind of our little opening and closing talks about that. So now we are going to get into our character spotlight, if you're ready.

rainbow:

Yes, we are, and we are going to talk about Inuoka.

em:

And we're going to talk about him because really I don't really remember much more of him after this episode and it's kind of a shame because he, I think, is such a great mirror of Hinata and it's a little weird that we don't get more of him, but it's because someone else comes along.

rainbow:

You know what? We don't need to get into that just yet. Okay, because we'll talk about it in season two and everyone will get to know my feelings. But, yeah, and Inuoka and I I, if I remember correctly, I think we're gonna get a little bit more of him in the haikyuu movie. when we get to the battle of the garbage dump, unless they cut that out because of time purposes, but definitely in the manga, during the nekoma karasuno game at nationals, we get, a little bit more inuoka. So, his name is Inuoka So. I think it's So, it's S-O-U or it's also spelled when it's romanticized, it's S with an O with a line over it, like the O has a little line, which I think often the oh with the line over it is like oh, you.

rainbow:

So I think it's like, it's like so or so I want to say so, so yeah, so inuoka, so and his name meaning, his last name, inuoka, or his first. Oh no, is his first name. No, his last name, his last name is inuoka and it means dog hill, um, and so I'm not sure of the accuracy, but it's it. Looked it online, it said it meant run, which I thought was interesting, which you know makes sense. He's high energy and I just love because inu is dog in japanese and nekoma, neko is cats and nekoma is like a team full of cats, like you know. Kenma is a cat, kuro is a cat like. They're all pretty cat like, except for inuoka. He is the one dog, yeah on their team.

rainbow:

So I love that. and then I do have a quote here about his personality from the wiki. Inuoka has a very bright, bouncy personality that is similar to hinata's. It has been mentioned by coach naoe and kenma that he isn't a very quick thinker. Although he isn't a very quick thinker, although he is very serious when playing volleyball. He is also really passionate about his position as a middle blocker and is especially enthralled when he plays against hinata. He is also shown to be very caring, encouraging towards his teammates. Additionally, he is a very hard-working person and I agree with that. Yeah, very dog-like. I, yeah, very, very much so.

rainbow:

And I actually have like some headcanons about Inuoka and Hinata, maybe like practice kissing at a camp or something you know. Like I like to think they do. I like you know it's not like a full ship. I think that maybe they're a little bit of a rare pair that some people do ship them together. And again, if we like got more of Inuoka later, maybe we'd get more of that, but but you know he gets sidelined for another character that we meet later on.

rainbow:

So whatever, also with his character sheet. So the way his character sheet is interesting, because usually it's just the character kind of standing there, but for inu oka he's like jumping in the air and like they had to like move the like ability parameter, like to like a different part of the page because like his body is just taking up so much of it.

rainbow:

Interesting which I thought was very cute. So, yeah, he goes to Neckama High School. He's in class 1-1. His position is middle blocker. He's 6-1. Damn, he's, like I said, he's a first year. His birthday is November 1st. Scorpio, a Scorpio, a Scorpio. His favorite food is fried chicken and rice, and there's a little exclamation point there. So he really loves fried chicken and rice. Dude, I feel that, yeah, honestly, now I want that. It's getting close to lunchtime and I'm hungry. His current worry is no matter how much he eats and eats, he still gets hungry right after, because he is a growing boy.

rainbow:

He's a growing teen that eats. He still gets hungry right after because he is a growing boy. He's a growing that's not even just boys. All teenagers are so hungry all the time. Yeah well, they're growing and he's a little puppy. He is. He's a little puppy. He's got to eat all the time. I remember being a teenager and just wanting to eat so much food and I could eat so much food, and now I just cannot eat nearly as much because, I'm no longer growing, I'm dying.

rainbow:

Dying, in fact, [jesus Christ], that was a joke. I'm not like actively dying. Just, you know, once you reach a certain age, everybody's dying slowly. Okay, so his ability parameters on the five point scale, his intelligence and his technique are a one, his jumping is a three, his power is a four, but his speed and stamina are both fives. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, and I think that's probably very similar to hinata. Yeah, no, he really is like the hinata of nekoma. So that's inuoka. Do you have any comments on him? I?

em:

like him. I wish we got more of him. I like that we. You know, this is one of those times where he was someone I didn't really pay much attention to, so I'm glad I'm getting I'm getting a moment to know him. Yeah, absolutely well, that brings us to america's favorite game, who and haikyuu. This week's scenario is brought to us by taylor from twitter. If they played a musical instrument, which would it be? And today we're talking about hinata kageyama, kenma, kuro, inuoka, yaku noya, tanaka and yamamoto. So, starting off with Hinata, what is he playing? Drums Something, percussion, something with that that requires a lot of energy. It's funny, I don't know why. I was like, like wanted him with like a wind instrument, just like blowing really too hard into a trumpet or something.

rainbow:

No, I could see that.

em:

I also just feel like you know him, his, you know or like he's not very good at instruments, so he just does the gong and does like one big noise for every song, yeah, or like cymbals or something he's kind of.

rainbow:

If anyone has seen School of Rock, he very much is giving like Freddie where, like when Jack Black is like does anyone here play drums? And Freddie's like I play percussion and somebody's like yeah, because you can't play anything else.

em:

That feels like Hinata. Yeah for sure, Kageyama is definitely giving me strings. I think he's doing like viola.

rainbow:

Oh yeah, I could see that, or like piano.

em:

Oh, piano With his long fingers.

rainbow:

Yeah, he'd be really good at piano, that'd be cool.

em:

Yeah, I can subscribe to that, kenma.

rainbow:

What is Ken? What is kenma doing? Bass something good with his hands as well. I was just thinking bass because I feel like it's not like it's very like bass is. I feel like a little bit more chill. It's very much about like, keeping the rhythm, if I'm not mistaken, and I could just see him just quietly, just like in the background, just doing his bass you know I'm done and you know, I mean I, I okay full disclosure.

rainbow:

I don't like know a crazy amount about music, but I I could see, like you know, if we were doing like a nekoma band, au, I could see like kuro being like the bass is the heart of the team, or the heart of the band and, speaking of kuro, I think he would be like a guitarist, like electric guitar, something cool yeah, absolutely. Inuoka french horn. Yeah, I could see him being a little band nerd.

em:

Yeah, for sure, yaku.

rainbow:

Yaku is giving. I don't know, I could see him as a drummer as well. No, I agree with that. Yeah, I could definitely see him being a drummer, or maybe like an upright bass, you know, like in an orchestra. I could see him doing that. Noya beatboxing.

em:

I love that. Let's keep that let's do it I was because I wanted to almost give him percussion as well. But let's, let's have him do some beatboxing tanaka again, I think would be kind of similar, like well, you can't do anything else. I was thinking what's the tambourine. The tambourine I love that for him. Yeah, him and yamamoto are just doing the tambourines together.

rainbow:

Yeah, and then I didn't put tsukishima on this list, but I feel like he is keyboardist.

em:

Yes yep, maybe it's the glasses or something, I don't know. The music nerdness going on.

rainbow:

Well, also just like his, like having his headphones all the time. He's just like giving dj. Yes, he's giving dj, who will not take your request he will play what he wants to play. He does not care what you want to listen to a thousand percent. All you're saying is truth yeah, so write us in, let us know, what instrument you think they would play and keep giving us who in haikyuu scenarios, because we need them, yeah, we yeah, we have a lot, again, some of them that we've gotten so far.

rainbow:

We are not, equipped to answer, so we'll put those out on Twitter occasionally, but we want more and we want more. We like ones like this, where it really gives us something to talk about. I feel like sometimes like a who and IQ is more like a like some. Sometimes it's like a yes or no, like, yes, this character would do this or no, they wouldn't. And I really like being able to get into, like their personalities when it comes to the who and haiku scenarios. So keep sending them our way. We love to hear them. We've got a master list, and we will occasionally like last week, you know insert our own as well when we think of them and before we get into the spoiler zone, before we lose, maybe some of you, don't forget.

em:

You can contact us on twitter, instagram, tumblr and blue sky. Fly h q pod. F l y h q p o d. You can also email us at f l y h q p o d at gmail dot com. We love interacting with y'all, so hit us up, please, and always, you know, rate review, smash that motherfucking like button, that subscribe button. It all helps us get the word out and maybe more queer haiku fans who want to hear us blabber about it can listen did we mention that we got a review on apple?

em:

podcast we did. Actually, we are terrible at thinking to check it. My mom let me know she was like you guys got a nice review on apple podcast and thank you to whoever did that. You know they they complimented our voices and that they enjoyed listening to it and we just like. That always makes us so happy to hear, like we. I think we would do this if we got zero engagement, so everything else is just extra love yeah, I would scream into the void if no one was listening but the fact that people are listening and enjoying is really nice and we we appreciate the compliments on our voice.

rainbow:

I think somebody has said that like our voices are soothing, and I love that. and I, just as somebody who like loves listening to podcasts, like it's one of those things where, like, I get so much out of listening to podcasts and the idea that, like I am now giving that to other people is just really special and I love that, and so thank you all for listening. we really, really appreciate you being here.

em:

I'd give you all a little kiss on the nose if I could, every single one of you now. That being said, get in the pool because we're getting spoiled it's the spoilers.

rainbow:

I think we should change it up every season. I think the metaphor for the spoiler zone should change every season. Okay, For season one it's a pool.

em:

I'll think on it for next season. Yeah, we've got some time, we've got several months. I'm going to start us off with just a quick little note about you know Kurotsuki and that's not a ship that I personally care for, but I do like their dynamic a lot and we do get that little hint of it at the end of this episode when Kuro's like ah, youth, and like he clocks tsuki is kind of a sourpuss and just kind of want to note that like we'll get a lot more of that in the second season during the summer training, when Kuro really kind of takes tsuki under his wing along with Bokuto and Akashi, and I just, yeah, I think he's a really good like idol for tsuki because he's a middle blocker as well and he teaches them a lot of good tricks and stuff like that well, it's just another great example of Haikyuu foreshadowing and just being like, hey, here's a little hint that you don't even know you're getting.

rainbow:

Yeah, but really again, haikyuu really rewards a rewatch yes, definitely that's a big part of it.

rainbow:

So the other thing I wanted to talk about is, you know, I kind of mentioned this at the top of the episode where the movie is the, the battle of the garbage dump, and so we get to see that, and so I just wanted I was thinking a lot about.

rainbow:

You know the fact that this is the first game they play and that's the last game they play. And thinking it actually just occurred to me as I was talking about it earlier, how Kenma gets the last ball, like he gets the last point by getting the ball, and versus when they play them at nationals, I think like Kenma like goes to save the ball and then he like slips or something and doesn't get it, and then Karasuno wins interesting, and then also like with Hinata being like one more game and we'll see that later in season two where Hinata's like one more, like let's keep playing, and like this is kind of something Karasuno and Nekoma always do when they play each other it's like let's go, let's go, and at the end of that game at nationals, like you know they, you know Karasuno gets the point and Hinata's like okay, next let's keep going, next serve Tanaka. You're up and like he doesn't even realize the game is done and there's yeah, and there's a lot of like.

rainbow:

I think there's even, I think there might even be a shot where, like, like when Karasuno and Nekoma are playing like they kind of almost even forget that they're at nationals and it's like they're just playing another practice match together. Yes, and so I think it's. It's really and it's almost like I went. You know, once the movie is like available either on Crunchyroll or, you know, when I buy it on DVD or whenever I can just watch it over and over again from the comfort of my own home, I think I'd like to do a rewatch of episodes 12 and 13 and then watch the movie and kind of compare those two matches. That might be fun. That might be something we can do. We can talk about that off mic, the idea that I just had, but yeah, so do you have anything you want to say about, you know, nekoma and, like, the future of Nekoma and the future of Nekoma and Karasuno?

em:

I just again. They just really embody what perfect rivals are and I. And I forgot because, like I haven't really read the match since I first read it and I'm keeping it that way so I can really enjoy the movie but I forgot that like he doesn't even realize the game is over and I'm sure at that point the fever is starting. Yes, and you can kind of see it.

rainbow:

I think you see that in his eyes, that like crazed look, yeah, because that's, I think that's like third day hell, like they play nekoma and then they play that game against kamo, kamo medai.

em:

I can never remember how you pronounce that team hoshiumi's team, the seagull people yeah, the seagulls, but yeah, no, I think, yeah, it is like the stars have really aligned. We're here, the movie's coming out. Nekoma is a huge part of this story.

rainbow:

We love them yeah, they're so good. We love these characters. I mean, I feel like Seijo gets a lot of love as, like you know, as one of the non-Kurosuno teams, but like Nekoma, I think, really gets just as much, I think, a lot of love from Furudate especially. I think Furudate is a soft spot for Nekoma. So, yeah, it's very interesting and I mean, you know this, this relationship that they're building with Nekoma, this rivalry, is going to lead them to more opportunities to train and practice with better teams. That will just make them even better. Yeah, I think that's it. I think that's it for this arc, that's it for this episode.

em:

We'll see you next week where we're just going to be yapping, and we hope to see you there.

rainbow:

We hope to see you there. If we don't, we to see you there. If we don't, we'll see you in episode 14, two weeks from now and we'll start the inter high arc.

em:

So stay tuned, everyone, and until next time, fly high.
