hello everyone and welcome to fly a queer Haikyuu podcast. I'm rainbow, they she
em
00:14
and I'm ian, and today we're talking about season four, episode nine everyone's night.
rainbow
00:25
are you gonna do the whole podcast with that accent? I'd love that. That's a great challenge. I'd love to see it.
em
00:29
Did I jump scare our Australian audience, our huge Australian audience.
rainbow
00:33
I mean, I know we've got some listeners in the in the old AU, um, oh, actually that this is such a tangent, but I think our listeners in particular will appreciate this. I was talking to my friend and her boyfriend about like fan fiction. And I was talking to my friend and her boyfriend about like fan fiction and I was talking about like oh yeah, like that's a really fun AU, and I know that he wanted to say what's an AU, but he said what's Australia?
em
00:56
What is Australia? Sorry, this is so bad.
rainbow
01:00
That's a good question, though. Is it a continent, is it a country? Is it both?
em
01:04
I think it's a continent, isn't it?
rainbow
01:06
I think it's both. I think it's also a country, it is a continent.
em
01:10
Oh boy, I'm showing everyone my ass right now.
rainbow
01:18
Oh well, you have editing power so you could always edit it out. Don't make scary faces at our cat. We are unhinged. It's because we've been watching nothing but trashy reality dating TV for the last, I would say week and a half.
em
01:26
Yeah, spoiler alert this week's who and Haikyuu will be Love Island based, so I'm hoping that you're watching it. Nicolandria, shippers, rise up.
rainbow
01:35
Because we are actively watching season seven as it comes out, and we're also watching season six.
em
01:41
Let me tell you guys too. Neither of us are big reality TV people, especially something like Love Island, but it has just hooked us. I don't know what to tell you. A new bombshell has entered the villa.
rainbow
01:52
Yes, and we absolutely love the host. Yeah, for me, like I like reality TV, that is like competition based. I love RuPaul's Drag Race. I love like Blown Away, face Off. I think is the makeup one, great British Baking Show, great Pottery Throwdown. Like I don't really care for the fighting and the drama. I think that's why I like Love Island so much is because it feels like there is drama. And I think that's maybe why I don't like season six as much, because I feel like the drama. I'm just not as there for Mm, hmm. And then the ultimatum, queer love. I will only watch because it is clear and I will clearly queer. It's clearly queer. No, I'll only watch it because it's queer and I think lesbians make some of the best drama in the world.
em
02:34
Yes.
rainbow
02:35
All right.
em
02:35
Well, now that we've, gotten that out of the way. Clearly we had that really ready to go in the tank. We have been just watching a lot of reality TV.
rainbow
02:42
It's all I want to talk about. It's actually becoming a problem. I think I need to read a book. Oh, they're one of my favorite comedians, Lisa Traeger. She says the great thing about watching like reality TV. All the time is watching succession feels like it's reading.
em
02:54
Oh my god, totally Wait. That's a great segue reading a book.
rainbow
02:58
Yeah, oh, I didn't even think about that, yeah, so I actually want to talk about something very serious, so I guess I'll start this off by saying so. On Friday, a lot of Supreme Court decisions dropped. Please, you know, if you are in America, if you're not in America and you're interested in it, but if you're in the United States, like, try to pay attention to that because, like, the Supreme Court is just handing Donald Trump this country on a silver platter, like they're giving him the dictatorship he's always wanted. Is that because three of the appointees are ones that he appointed in his first term? Probably? Um, this is a fucking nightmare.
03:34
The fascism is here, um, but the relevant decision to the thing I want to discuss today is that the supreme court backs parents seeking to opt their kids out of LGBTQ books in elementary schools. Yeah, so I think I have an issue with the way that the book ban craze is being treated in the media. I'm thinking there's a book that I read not too long ago for middle grade students about book bans. There's the episode of Abbott Elementary in the most recent season that talks about book bans, of Abbott Elementary in the most recent season that talks about book bans and what I'm seeing from these kinds of stories is the idea that these book bans are like isolated incidents coming from parents who are like maybe a little overzealous and overprotective and are like, well, I don't want my child to read books that are like, really crass, or I don't want my child to read stuff that maybe goes against my religion, or I don't want to read stuff about like I don't want my kid reading books about like a character who's too sassy and disrespectful, because then they'll start mimicking them, and I'm sure those incidences are still happening. That is not most of what we are seeing. What we are seeing right now is a concerted, organized effort on the part of conservative people and conservative politicians to censor books so that LGBTQ plus voices and the voices of people of color are silenced. This is not good. It's called library side. What's happening? The banning of books, the closing of libraries. When they refuse to ban books. It's a big fucking problem. Censorship is not okay.
05:02
I don't want to get too deep into this. Every library institute did a report recently. They they just released it. I've read the report. It's very thorough, but not too long, um, and I'm definitely going to check out some of those references to learn more about it, but I wanted to tell you all the key takeaways, um, and I'm going to link to the report or the page where you can download the report. I'm going to link to that in our show notes in case anyone is interested, if you want to spread the news.
05:26
I think I've talked a lot about how I'm very passionate about libraries and I just think it's really important that we pay attention to this, because libraries are one of the few like socialist organizations we have in this country and they are being. They are under attack because the people who are in control of our government right now they don't want us to have access to information, they don't want us to have critical thinking skills, they don't want us to be looking at anything other than what they're telling us we need to know and it's not okay. So the key takeaways are that book ban from this report from the Every Library Institute. The key takeaways are that book bans are increasingly motivated by powerful political and religious groups rather than by local parental concerns. Censorship campaigns are closely connected to school privatization and efforts against diversity, equity and inclusion. Coordinated campaigns are nationalizing what were previously local conflicts within school boards. Resistance is growing, particularly from student-led movements, and states passing right-to-read legislation.
06:19
The futures of libraries, education and civil liberties is at a critical juncture and requires urgent advocacy, and I really do believe this. I believe that it requires advocacy. I really do believe in the power of libraries as much all of my feelings about like the state and the governments. I think libraries are the best things that come out of those and I think they need to be protected. So support your local library.
06:42
Get a library card, use it. You can find ebooks, audiobooks, sometimes even TV comic books. Go check out your local library, see what it has to offer. Some states you can get a library card just being a resident of the state. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the county. If anyone has questions, please feel free to reach out. I'm happy to help like figure things out with you and your public library. Support your school library. Do what you can and keep reading. Keep reading and especially read books that they tell you that you shouldn't be reading, because that means there's something in there that's dangerous towards what they are trying to do, the fascism they are trying to bring to this country. Okay.
em
07:17
Anything to add. I mean, you really, you've got it. I just can only say ditto.
rainbow
07:23
I felt like I was on a confessional for a second in our mental minds. We are on the island yeah, I am in the room with the pretty pink and blue background and I am. I am talking about, I just feel I just don't feel connected to this current government. Um, no.
07:41
I think my I have a stronger connection with libraries personally. We're dumping the government off the island. Yeah, sorry, you're going to get dumped. Everyone's voting you off. Okay, I have a quick thing of housekeeping before we get into the episode, and that is we're on episode nine of season four, which is not the exact halfway point in the series, but for me it is the spiritual midpoint, because we are leaving the training arc and we are getting into the nationals arc, and that's kind of how I always delineate Haikyuu seasons in my mind. We have training and then we have tournaments. So we're about to go into nationals. We did it, we made it to the spring finals. We're about to be in Japan, or we are in Japan, we're about to be in Tokyo. I'm very excited. But after this episode we are going to have our midseason break and we're going to release a little episode. I've talked about it enough. We're going to do who and how, q stuff. I'm very excited, but we will be back with our regular episodes, beginning with the Nationals arc, on July 28th.
em
08:41
Let's jump into it. Will you count me down? I sure will. In three, two, one. New year, new crows. This slice of life episode gives us a little break from the volleyball action as our boys enjoy New Year's Day. Everyone has a different way of coping with the mental stress of nationals looming, from studying to running to taking a friendly bath. The time has finally come. The battle on the orange court in this episode of Haikyuu.
rainbow
09:07
This is a fun episode. This is like a taste of what Fruitate thought we wouldn't want, and this is one of like my. I love this episode. I think it's one of my favorites.
em
09:16
I, yes, me too. I listen, I love the volleyball, but I do. I wish we did have more of these like slice of life type episodes where we just got to hang out and see like the dynamics and everything, because it's so, this is a fun one to do.
rainbow
09:28
I just think. At the very least, I feel like maybe, like every couple of episodes, just gives this, give us a little peek of what's going on at home. That's all we want. Um, so we begin at the Sawamura residence with Daichi waking up for school on New Year's Day. Uh, for some reason he's going to school on New Year's Day, um, and as he's leaving, his mom says, you know? She's like where are you going? He says practice, and she's like oh, I thought all of your matches ended yesterday. And so he jumped to him, running to the school in a panic. He's scrolling through his phone. He can't seem to find Asahi and Suga's numbers. He's really confused.
10:02
He gets to the gym, he opens the door. He's wearing a number 11 jersey. His voice is sounding a little young, it seems like he's reverted. He looks into the gym and they're his old senpai, the, the um captains when he was a, an underclassman, and he's very confused and he's like. They're like oh, hey, Daichi, what's up? And he's like hey, I'm here for practice. But then one of them is holding a basketball. It's fade, their face, their faces, go, go out. Um, it's very dreamlike and you realize this is a dream because the one captain says but Daichi, you're the only person on the volleyball team. Boom, boom. And then Daichi wakes up with a start, um, and he goes. Well, he wakes up to his alarm and he goes. Well, he wakes up to his alarm again. He goes oh, wow, like, what a terrible way to start the new year.
em
10:49
This was such a realistic dream sequence from not being able to find a contact in your phone to his jersey being wrong to not being confused that his old senpai was there Like this was such a good dream sequence.
rainbow
11:01
I really felt that way too, because it sounds and it's very good in that like dream, that like feels very realistic at first and then you kind of like realize you're in a dream, because I think dreams sometimes can be a crutch for narratives and it's like you don't always want to use those. But I think this was a really good use of a dream sequence.
em
11:17
And I think we get a little insight into Daichi's anxiety.
rainbow
11:20
um, but yeah, yeah, absolutely, um, did you want to talk at all about your first?
em
11:26
note. So I looked up because Daichi makes a point to say what a horrible like first dream of the new year. And this is a thing. It's called Hatsuyume In Japanese culture. A Hatsuyume is the first dream one has in the new year. Traditionally, the contents of such a dream would foretell the luck of the dreamer in the ensuing year.
rainbow
11:45
So you know that it's obviously an anxiety dream, but also with that belief it's like, oh no, not a great way to start the year well, and it's so interesting and I mean I think there's maybe something we could discuss a little bit in the spoiler zone about this, but, um, I think for now, I think one of the things that immediately comes to my mind when I think, for now, I think one of the things that immediately comes to my mind when I think of him being told he's the only person on the volleyball team is you think of Hinata, who was the only person on his volleyball team in middle school until his third year?
12:14
yeah, and I think Daichi did have similar feelings of like he does have Suga and Asahi, but especially as a first year, feeling kind of alone and like having this drive to do better yeah, well, and he's the captain, he's responsible for it all, and I don't think it's a a coincidence that the two people he saw who had faces were former captains, and particularly captains who like especially the one captain who was like, if you get a chance to go to nationals, you have to take it, and I think a lot is riding on Daichi's shoulders.
12:42
Yeah, he feels very responsible. Yeah, so I appreciate you looking that up about the, the dream of the new year. I didn't know about that, but I wanted to look up a little bit about um, japanese new year, because after Daichi wakes up, he like makes, he goes to a shrine, um for a shrine visit, and so, um, I found a little bit of information about Japanese new year and I thought it was interesting that it is January 1st and I was like, oh okay, so they don't celebrate it like around the same time as like Chinese New Year, which that is based on a loony solar calendar, and up until 1873, japan did celebrate their new year according to this loony solar calendar. During the Meiji period they switched to a Gregorian calendar, which is like what we use here in the West.
em
13:26
Well, I learned in my Japanese class that they count the years differently. Oh, they do it based on the emperor and they're in era. And you guys, I'm this is, you know, I'm doing my best it's era seven Interesting. Yeah, so they're in year seven Interesting. Okay, so it's like not 2025 for them right now it's like era seven. It's Renoir seven, nana, nana.
rainbow
13:52
I wonder how that works with like, because I mean Japan is like, they're part of like the international, you know community, like the international economy.
em
14:01
So I wonder how that works when they're like they probably have to also use like be aware of the 2025. I didn't do a lot of research into it. This is again. This is just something that like, because at the top of each class, we go over, like the date, and so we start with era seven, and it's it used to be. When an emperor died, a new one would begin, and they just recently the last one, retired and then they went into a new one.
rainbow
14:25
So yeah, a little fun fact for you, very interesting. Thank you, I I knew nothing about that. Um, so we see. So Daichi shows up to this shrine and he's like, he's like 30 minutes early, I think, and he's like, oh, I got here early. But then Asahi shows up and Suga shows up, and then Kiyoko's the last to arrive. But she's like, did I get the time wrong?
em
14:44
and in the manga there is a panel of Daichi just like watching the clock before he leaves the house, and I feel like this is really a signifier they're all just like anxious right now.
rainbow
14:52
Yeah, yeah, they got there early. They're like we want to go because what they're doing is called Hatsumode, which is it's the first shrine visit of the year, and you go to either a Shinto shrine or a Buddhist temple and it's supposed to bring a fresh start to the year. Part of that process is making wishes, and generally wishes for the new year are made, and new charms or amulets, which are called omamori, are bought, and then the old ones are returned to the shrine so they can be cremated, which I think is very interesting. I want to learn more about Shintoism. I think it's a very fascinating religion and actually the tradition of these shrine visits Is believed to be fairly recent and primarily created during the Meiji era by railway companies seeking to drive the custom oh, which I think is interesting Because, like I mean, it's a huge thing. I was reading the Wikipedia page about these shrine visits and it said like some of the like biggest shrines get like millions of visitors and there are like huge like queues, so I thought it was very interesting.
em
15:54
This was a really like. I loved this look into Japanese culture, the way that like they get their fortunes and they give Asahi a hard time about his and like you get an idea, without being like told, of like what the typical, what a typical fortune is and like what's not, and I just really liked that.
rainbow
16:12
Yeah, and so and these fortunes that they get are called omikuji and after so we have like, we have them like walking up to do their prayers, where they like they have to like clap, they like bow, and then they clap twice and they're supposed to pray, and then they get their fortunes and we see like Asahi being like I don't want to get one because it's just going to be a bad one, and they're like no, go ahead and try it, and he gets like bad fortune, whereas like Daichi and Suga get like future good and they make fun of him. But then we see, right before they're going to walk away, we see a shot of a bunch of those omikuji, those fortunes like tied to a string and, um, traditionally, if the omikuji predicts bad luck, purchasers can tie it to a tree on the shrine grounds and hopes that its prediction will not come true. Um, so I thought that was really cute and it's the kind of thing where, like for us as like a western audience, we're just kind of like oh, these are kind of like, or at least for me it's like. I've seen these kinds of things in anime before. I didn't really look deeper, but I'm sure for like people who are like in Japan. It's just like this would be for like us if we were watching them like pour champagne or sparkling wine and like kiss at midnight or something. So I just I do like that like cultural aspect, and I think that's something about like if we'd gotten more of these slice of life moments, we could have seen more of that and I think that would have been interesting. But you know, we'll see.
17:29
So you know they leave the shrine, they're done, they're walking away and the third years are talking about what they asked for and I think Daichi says something like I've heard that you're really supposed to pray to the gods for just like normal everyday things, not like big things. And also he starts like listing all of the things he was asking for and it's kind of sweet because it's really not for himself as much. It's a lot like I hope our team does good in matches. He talks about like hoping like his neighbor's dog is well, because they're like it seemed sick. So I thought that was really cute. And but Kiyoko says like she's like she basically stops them and she's like asking the gods for help isn't going to do anything, it's not going to do any good, um, and she says they don't need to ask the gods for help winning matches. They'll be fine without their help.
em
18:11
And then the guys all cry it's so funny because she'll, she says that initial thing and they're like, really, Kiyoko, you're gonna say that now, and then she's like but it's fine, like we'll be fine without it.
rainbow
18:19
And then I love how all the boys, very quietly, are like yeah they like love, like getting like that hype up from Kiyoko is really all they need. And I do want to say, before we move on to the next part I do love when they're running up to the shrine. Suga is yapping his way up those stairs. That is clearly. He is clearly a nervous talker. He is like he will not shut the fuck up. And Daichi has to be like Suga calm down.
em
18:42
Well, and it's so funny because Daichi is always in captain mode. He's like telling Suga to calm down and then he's telling Asahi to like talk a little more.
rainbow
18:49
It's so funny, yeah, and he's like and Asahi, you're being too quiet, I know you're having bad feelings over there. Okay, so then from here we cut to Kageyama, who's running through some residential streets and His little running gear, his blue jacket and his leggings and his shorts, and his phone buzzes with a message from Hinata, who is inviting him to go to a shrine with him and Yamaguchi to like pray for certain victory. And Kageyama sends back just a no, with a period. And then we see Hinata reading this and then throwing his phone across the room in frustration. He goes, he like, throws it on his bed because Kageyama said no, he doesn't want to go on a little date with him.
em
19:33
I also feel like part of that was that Hinata was like ruminating on whether or not he should even invite stupid Kageyama and then he's like, well, I want to invite him, so I will, and then just to get rejected.
rainbow
19:44
He's like fuck this fucking handsome bitch I know I part of my like headcanon, for it is that it was like Hinata and yamaguchi and Kageyama was like well, maybe if it was just Hinata, but it's like awkward if I go with him and yamaguchi like he wanted it to be a little shrine visit date, just the two of them which we're getting. None of that in the canon.
em
20:05
That's just my fun little head canon well, and also I meant to like pull up the actual lines. But in the one of the light novels they talk about this scene and they talk about Kageyama. After receiving the text he has butterflies at the bottom of his stomach and he's all like. He gets like flustered and annoyed and he says out loud like what is that idiot?
rainbow
20:24
doing. Yeah, the light novels are really fucking gay. They are. They're written by fujoshis. They must be right like. They simply must be written by people like us who ship them. Yeah, um, okay.
20:37
So then we kind of get like a very small montage of like seeing what everyone else or what some of the others are up to like. We see Tanaka and psychoeko, and Saeko seems pretty wasted. And then we have Daichi, who's waving goodbye to the other third years. We see Noya playing some sort of game which I'll get into a second what the game is but he's playing a game with, presumably, his grandfather. We see Akitaru like maybe also a little buzzed like opening up Tsukishima's door to like have him come like join the fun at their house. But Tsukishima has his headphones on and he's like flipping through some sort of like music magazine, which I love that Tsuki just has this interest in music that's never commented on, but like is like there.
21:14
Um, so then we go back to Daichi and he's going by the school on his way home and like he's thinking to himself I was like I know it was just a dream, I know it was just a dream, but I need to check just in case and he like, gets to the gym and he jumps up and he looks and the volleyball net is still there and he feels like a sigh of relief. And then he hears noise coming from the other side of the gym and goes to investigate, finding Kagehina and TaneNoya playing the same game that Noya was playing with his grandpa, which is called um hanesuki, and it's a traditional japanese game played with a wooden paddle and a shutter cock a shuttle, yeah, shuttle cock, which is what they use in badminton.
21:52
It's that little like ball with the little like feathers coming off the end. The game is played by two, two, four players who take turns hitting the shuttle cock back and forth. The objective is to keep the shuttle cock in the air, with points awarded for each successful hit. So they're all playing this game together and Daishi's like what the hell are you guys doing here? And Hinata says he just found them there on his way home from the shrine visit. Kageyama just sort of ended up there.
em
22:18
I think Hinata and Kageyama are both questionable In the sub. Hinata said he swung by because he felt like it. And what does Kageyama say? I just passed by. I think they were hoping to run into each other.
rainbow
22:29
I think it's very suspicious. I think they were also, I think, part of. I wonder if they were both, just like maybe, if I go by, maybe if Hinata's there, we can play some volleyball together, you know, um. And then Tanaka says he was there to get away from his drunk sister and then Noya was there to find worthy opponents. That I believe, yeah. And then Daichi quickly like rounds them up and chastises them for not resting and he makes them all go home and like, while he's pushing them away, he's like I just came here to make sure the basketball team hadn't taken over the court. And in the dub I love what Tanaka says, because he goes in their bouncy ball dreams and I I think Tanaka's voice actor is so fun. I think he's really, really gotta um, really got the character down for Tanaka. Yeah, um, okay. And so then Daichi continues on his long journey home and then he runs into who else but his ex-boyfriend?
em
23:20
he's always gonna be there. They had something, I just know it.
rainbow
23:23
We, just we know that, we know it, we know it and I think his name is like ikijiri or something. Um, anyway, his ex-boyfriend. We met him back in season one, if you can remember, and they talk about the finals and how nervous Daichi is to go to nationals. And at first Ikichiro is like well, I totally understand, like it's understandably nervous, but then he's like no, I'm pumped for you to go, everyone is ready for you to go to nationals, like you need to go out there and like win, and Daichi has like a brief flashback to what he said at the end. And Daichi says he, you know what? You're right, I don't need to be so freaked out, I have a team with me and I think the community is part of that team and that's what this moment is saying so.
em
24:02
True, also, you called him akitaru. I sure did, um, but I think what also the wording is really important in the sub, because in that, when he's like looking up relieved, he's like I'm not alone, which is what the dream was all about was him being alone, and it's kind of like a nice reminder. And in the manga it flashes to him with the third years at the shrine and then him pushing the four volleyball idiots to go home, and it's just like, yeah, you're not alone, you've got your team, you've got your friends, yeah, that's all like the crows. Whole thing is not being alone, they are a murder yes, so we end there.
rainbow
24:38
And then it's here. It's the day that they leave for nationals. Hinata leaves his house bright and early.
em
24:46
He walks into the sun, and did you not catch the shot of his travel?
rainbow
24:50
toothbrush. I didn't even. I wasn't even paying attention. I was taking my little. I didn't notice he puts his travel toothbrush in his bag. It's time that travel toothbrush, which has been a symbol. He wasn't able to use it at the Shiratorizawa first year's training camp because he wasn't allowed to stay, but this is National's baby and he's going to use that toothbrush.
25:09
Okay, after a quick commercial break, we come back to Tanaka Noya and Hinata, with their faces pressed up against the bus windows and they are ogling the Skytree, which we finally did it, boys, we got to see the Skytree, aren't you happy? That was actually the Skytree this time, right? I think so. Yeah, I think so. And then Daichi, like you know, and we kind of see everyone else's, you know, I think Tsukishima and Kageyama are both like sleeping. Everyone else is being normal, but, like Tanaka Noya and Hinata are just like way too hype. So Daichi has to put on like his scariest voice, his scariest face, to like be like, all right, guys, this is what we're going to do. And then he turns and he's just like and you're all going to be on your best behavior, aren't you?
25:50
And Tanaka Noya, Hinata are put in their place, although not well enough, because when they get off the bus they're in front of this huge hotel and Tanaka gets so excited. It's like a really like, it's a tall ass hotel, probably like 20 floors, um, and he's like, oh my god, we're staying here. But then Enoshita is like, uh, no, and they point to this very small inn next. I think it's like what, the jaybird inn or something. So he points to that. But then Tanaka is equally excited about this place because he thinks they'll definitely see a house ghost so cute. And he's very excited. And then he, Noya and Hinata are super excited and they start running so they can explore. But they are stopped dead in their tracks by Daichi and his cold stare and he doesn't even have to say anything, he just looks at them and they're like, yes, sir.
em
26:33
And then what happens next. So now we cut to the boys warming up in the gym and Asahi feels like there must be less oxygen up here. But they're at sea level and Ukai notes that the nervous ones are already getting antsy. Does somebody say that in the sub? Anoshita is like we're at sea level, at least in the manga.
rainbow
26:51
I remember reading it there well, I mean, I think there is something to be said like they're usually up in the mountains, so the air is probably a little different for them, just not drastic enough for Asahi to be like hyperventilating.
em
27:02
It's like no, you're just nervous, and we have Kiyoko in the background reminding Yachi to breathe.
rainbow
27:06
I love that, like all the boys and Yachi are so nervous. Yachi is an empath.
em
27:12
So Ukai says to Takano this is exactly why I treated Tatsun to some beer Tatsun is Takanoe and he says it'll be fine. Hmm, I wrote, hmm, wonder what that's about. And then the very next scene we get the answer to it and Ukai is showing the boys the Takanoe Electric Shop's very own I'm awesome video. Ukai invented the fan cam. I do love that. They have this little like edit. They have like an AMV for their team. Like this is what I would do if I had to be on it, like if I had to contribute to a volleyball team, I would make an I'm awesome video and it's literally that.
27:47
So Takanoe took clips from their past matches where they had really good moves and there's like a chapter for each boy and their best moves and there's like music attached to each of them. Actually, I think this detail gets missed in the anime, but probably because of copyright. But Nishinoya's theme is the Rocky theme song and Takanoe even went so far as to like ask their family and friends about the vibe. I was cheated out of getting Kageyama's I'm Awesome moments and Hinata's too. We really only see Nishinoya's as an example.
rainbow
28:19
I well, we really only see Nishinoya as an example. I well, to be fair, the whole series is uh, Hinata and Kageyama.
em
28:22
I'm Awesome compilation yeah that's true.
rainbow
28:23
Um well, and I think Noya is like a great I well, because Noya just has so many cool saves. Yes, it does feel like that's like the best one. I did not know the bit about Rocky, the Rocky theme and I love that. Is it the the eye of the tiger? I have no idea or is it the like? I'm sure there's some sort of like um the whatever when he's running up the stairs.
em
28:42
Whatever, it's probably his eye of the tiger.
rainbow
28:43
I think it's eye of the tiger and that's honestly so perfect for Noya.
em
28:47
Um and Takeda is very impressed with the quality um, and I think this is a great idea, like instead of, this is just a different approach to kind of remind you guys that you're awesome. Um, and I love what Ukai says. I think this is actually more in the manga because Ukai says it's important. Let me scroll down because I really like what he says being able to see yourself do it is a very important thing well in the dub.
rainbow
29:12
Specifically, he says visualization is an important part of victory and that's so true.
em
29:17
I think that gets forgotten about. But like girl, you gotta manifest it.
rainbow
29:22
And I think we definitely see the effect on the team of this video.
em
29:26
Yes, some of them really play into it. But so Daichi goes to have a meeting with Sensei and coach and leaves the boys, especially the troublemakers, under Inoshita's watch. Suga is very offended that he wasn't asked and Daichi says you would just encourage them.
rainbow
29:40
He knows his husband is a chaos monster. He's not an idiot.
em
29:44
No, inoshita is definitely. You know he's a captain material and he'll keep those boys in line and he catches Kagehina getting ready for a jog. The little animals need to get more energy out before bedtime. You know they've been stuck on a bus for most of the day and I had my own little note that this is really real, because Hinata, especially, is like I haven't like moved enough today, and as someone who's gone from completely sedentary to a moderate amount of exercise a week, that is such a thing Once your body is used to moving, you have to move it, or like you feel antsy and stuff.
30:15
So we have Inoshita being torn. He doesn't want them getting lost in the streets of Tokyo, and these two idiots would, but if they don't go running they might have trouble sleeping. In comes Tsukki to save the day, who is getting something from the vending machine, and he before Inoshita. Inoshita's like Tsukki and he goes no, and he's like you don't even know what I'm going to yet and Tsukki's like you're gonna ask me to go with them. Right, and Enoshita clocks that Tsukki seems antsy too, since he's kind of wandering around and Tsukki, being the cheeky little shit, is like do you really think I could keep up with those two. And Enoshita then gets the inn to provide a bike for Tsukki to ride. I love.
rainbow
30:50
Enoshita. I love, I really like this moment. I will say I feel like the animation in this episode not super great and this particular moment really shows it. I feel like the like fluidity isn't there. I've really been noticing that and I feel like as we get later into the season, there's just going to be a few episodes where those moments are just not as good. It feels like maybe they just the budget wasn't there later in the season. Well, don't forget, this is the COVID season, exactly, and that's what I'm saying. I think that's why, because we have all this. Also, I just want to say I do love a Kagehina Tsukki moment, because that's a threeple we don't talk about a lot.
em
31:25
I have a note that like, so I'll just finish this scene and tell you what I was thinking, because Tsukki then threatens Kagehina, saying when I say it's time to go, it's time to go, and if you don't, I will leave you somewhere with limited public transportation, and even then, I don't think you know the address of this place. I like to think that this gives our three boys a real chance to bond. I don't know. I really do see like a begrudging friendship between Tsukki and Kagehina, especially as they get older and once they're the third, third years together. Like you can't tell me they don't bond, and I've got some uh, spoiler zone stuff to touch on in regards to that. Yes, so then Yachi sees the boys leave from her window and asks Yamaguchi why he isn't going, but he feels more at ease watching the I'm awesome videos, which that would be me.
rainbow
32:13
I want to watch these cool videos until it's bedtime well, and I think it's so smart to do this because it's like, especially for the people like Yamaguchi, like Asahi, who don't have the same confidence of like a Kagehina or a Noya, this is like such a good reminder of like oh no, I am fucking awesome. I love that you guys like gas these boys up.
em
32:35
It would be so easy to be intimidated right now and, yeah, I do think it was a really good move. So we have the other boys. Like you know how they wind down. We have Suga studying, sticking to his usual routine. He's like this is when I usually study and I think Kinochita is like, wow, you're so calm. And he's like this is what's keeping me calm, is like sticking to my routine. And Asahi has the fucking video I'm'm awesome on repeat and he's just like I can't believe it. These are really my teammates. And I think it's Ennoshita that says playing right into Ukai-san's hands. I see, I love it.
rainbow
33:04
I think Asahi's so sweet that he's like because it's not just him watching his own video to get his own confidence up. I love that he's watching like every single one of his teammates and he's like we're all so cool.
em
33:14
I love Asahi, my unsung gentle giant. So then TanaNoya are being freaks about knowing that Kiyoko is in the bath. They're like pacing. I need them to stop. I hate this. I need you guys to be fucking normal for two seconds it's so ridiculous.
rainbow
33:30
It's really creepy that you're just pacing around and thinking about the fact that girls are in the bath right now. That is a weird thing.
em
33:38
Somebody needs to talk to you, I do get the feeling that like the gender divide is really intense in Japan and like women I mean, it's also here too. It's fucking everywhere, but there really just seems to be the sense that women are just these like otherworldly fucking creatures to these boys.
rainbow
33:52
I don't know, it's really, it's just. It's. I mean, I think we'll get into it in like a few episodes. We were actually just talking about this before the recording, but I think there are things in this season in particular that really remind me that like oh, this is like a shonen anime and like the patriarchy is there and the misogyny is there and the objectification is there yeah, and so now it's time to settle in for some KiyoYachi.
em
34:19
We cut to the girls in the bath and little Yachi is so nervous. She's like I'm nervous when it's just the two of us. In the manga she also thinks like at the other camps there were other girl managers, so this is the first time it's just the two of them sitting right next to each other in a giant tub.
rainbow
34:33
Nakey and alone. This is peak, yuri Peak.
em
34:37
Yuri Like finally some lesbians in my volleyball anime, so desperate for something to say. Yachi brings up the fact that Kiyoko wears her black tights even with her summer uniform. I said nice, Yachi, she'll never know how much attention you pay to her legs now. And before Kiyoko even gets a chance to answer that, Yachi apologizes for commenting on her wardrobe and tries to go for a run. She's like I'm so sorry, Kiyoko, I did that, I'm going to go for a lap. And Kiyoko is like whoa, hold on. And now it is finally Kiyoko backstory time.
35:07
Kiyoko has a lot of scars on her legs and started wearing tights to hide them and just got used to wearing them. Now I know what you're thinking, because I was thinking oh my god, are we gonna have a self-harm storyline? But no, she used to be on the track team and was a hurdler, would trip over the hurdles more than others. So she has all of these scrapes and scars on her legs. Yachi calls them badges of honor, which I think is beautiful, and Kiyoko looks kind of surprised at this.
35:35
And Yachi immediately again apologizes and I think this is so funny. She's like what is this a battlefield? And then, like, throws her head in the water and Kiyoko laughs because Yachi's adorable and she's like I never thought about it before, that I thought about it that way before. That makes me happy. And then she goes in to say Kiyoko's old team from junior high was really big and she wasn't very good at talking to other people and she wasn't close with her juniors. Even when she joined Karasuno she didn't have a younger manager with her. She says you're the first person.
rainbow
36:08
I've been able to talk to like this Hitoka-chan, and then we all cry and then we all run to AO3. I have to go to AO3 right now.
em
36:13
And she then goes on to say and there's not much time Like she's like sad that she finally has this connection and they're down now to nationals. It's already almost over and she decides that this is the time to stand up and show her bare ass to Yachi as she looks over her shoulder and says tomorrow night let's talk in the baths like this again.
rainbow
36:34
Let's kiss, that's what you mean. Let's kiss, yeah I. This again let's kiss, that's what you mean. Let's kiss, yeah, um, I, I do. I have one thing to say, because, as much as I love this moment there is, particularly when Kiyoko stands up, it's very male gazey, because the camera like trails up her naked back. Yeah, and this is a teenage girl. Yeah, I like.
em
36:52
I understand she's a third year and she's the oldest one, but like I also think when she's sitting in the water they're really giving us like that. She has these bodacious boobies where it's like I don't even think that's the reality, it just feels very fan servicey.
rainbow
37:06
It's very fan servicey. It's just like yeah, it's just a reminder that like oh yeah, when Kiyoko was introduced, it was boobs and ass first, yep.
em
37:12
I also liked how she said though she says specifically tomorrow night after we win our first match, and I love that confidence from Kiyoko.
rainbow
37:22
She believes in her team Like she knows that they can do it and she knows that they will do it.
em
37:26
So then we go into like a mini kind of montage. It really is everyone's night settling in. And then I just had a note that Kagehina sleeps next to each other and I just love the difference. Like Kageyama is very like stiff as a board, kind of leaning to the side, and Hinata is on his back, arms flailed, half off his mat with his mouth hung open.
rainbow
37:44
Yes, I love it. We also get a hair down, Noya spotting, and he just looks like really he does look so young and cute with his hair down. I get why he spikes it up it, his hair down. I get why he spikes it up. It does give him maybe not a maturity, but it makes him seem older.
em
37:57
Yeah, I get that. The next morning, Takeda waxes poetic about how this is one of the most highly observed volleyball tournaments in the year and they compare it to I forget what the name is, but the baseball. Which baseball is huge in Japan. For some reason they compare it to like the baseball nationals. Hinata is excited to be here saying how this is where the little giant played, and Kageyama, as his usual literal self, ruins the moment by pointing out that he didn't actually play in this like area, that he played somewhere else. And Hinata yells it's about the mood.
rainbow
38:28
This is such like a perfect, like autistic Kageyama moment. This is like Kageyama. Volleyball is my special interest, tobio being well. Actually, I know the entire history of the Spring National Tournament and they used to play yes.
em
38:42
And then someone bumps into Hinata, which actually in the manga this happens a few more times, I think, just to emphasize how little of a guy Hinata is and like everyone is underestimating him right now. But they just save this one bump for the show, where he bumps into Noya, who then starts to fall face, first into some girl's boobies, and he's like so, he's like thank you god, thank you shouyo. But then the girl is able to grab him because he's 4 11, and it's like are you okay?
rainbow
39:10
well, and I do one thing I will say for all of the like gross perviness of the show, which just feels like the kind of thing that it's like, well, it's a show in an anime. What should you expect? It's like I don't know, maybe for people to do better, um, but I will say I do like I think a lesser show or one that did objectify women even more would have Noya be like pissed about that. He would be the kind of character who would be like pissy about that. But instead he just very quickly is like oh no, no, it's OK. Like he's like. He's like in the moment. He's like, oh my gosh, yes, this is so fortunate, but he would never set it up in a way that he would fall into a woman's boobs. He's just like, oh my gosh, this is very lucky of me, and as soon as the moment is taken away, he's fine.
em
39:45
Yeah, it feels it's more of a normal level because, like I get it.
rainbow
39:57
They never feel like anyone is unsafe. You know, they're not like really weird about it, except for that one time with um. What's his face from?
em
40:01
joe zengi.
rainbow
40:01
Oh, turashima yeah turashima is the only time I was like.
em
40:02
This is we need an adult the way people think that that was okay.
rainbow
40:06
Oh, worries me yeah, um, also, I just want to say I would also feel very fortunate if I fell into a pair of boobs. So I'm no better than a man I.
em
40:17
I love how he's like. There's just nothing I can do about this. This is a lucky, pervy incident he would have to like grab her to stop it from happening.
rainbow
40:25
No, so I think. But and I do I respect that the show doesn't let it go there, though it doesn't give us Noya's face in somebody's boobs, it's like, I think that's something the women do have a certain amount of, like agency and the ability to say like hey, actually don't treat me this way right.
em
40:40
So now Tanaka knows this girl. Her name is Kanoka, a wing spiker from Niiyama, my tall queen. Tall queen. They haven't seen each other since fourth grade, so Tanaka takes a moment to geek out about her mature figure. He like is talking to her very normally at first, and then he kind of realizes that it's a girl. And Suga observes this and is like I thought it was weird how easily Tanaka was talking to her. It seems like he finally like realizes that she's a girl.
rainbow
41:08
Well, I feel like, in the dub at least, he says something about like oh, you're still like big, and then he looks at her boobs and then it's just like I hate this.
em
41:16
Because Kanoko is a tall girl, obviously she's in volleyball, so that's about all we get. She kind of is like okay, I'll see you later. Ruchan and Tanaka's like oh boobs. And then we have Komori Motoya finding Kageyama and saying hi and Suga notices and listed as the top you know libro in volleyball monthly. Kageyama asks him where Sakusa is and he is tucked away in the corner with this incredible aura because he hates crowds this is what makes me say that Sakusa is a weird little creep.
rainbow
41:49
Like I get it, I get it. You don't like being around crowds, you don't have to look that way, you don't have to look. He's just giving like it's just so and like not even in, like he's not creepy in the way that, like he's being creepy towards other people, but just like seeing him, they're like how do you not look over there and think that is a ghost in the corner? In like bright yellow, that's the house ghost yes, and then we get hey, hey, hey.
em
42:11
Bokuto runs into Hinata and says hey, it's my number one pupil and Akashi has to be like Hinata. You says, hey, it's my number one pupil and Akashi has to be like Hinata. You can tell him when he's wrong. And even the crowd notices like, oh my god, isn't that Bokudo? He does have a presence. Who's that disciple, that little guy? Bokudo then notices Tsukki, much to his disdain, and you know who's coming up next it's Kuro. Kuro is such a mean girl. He's like hey, country bumpkin crows.
rainbow
42:38
Yeah, he's like did you finally get a chance to see the real Skytree?
em
42:41
And we have to talk about Kuro Dai we do Because it's real, we do the way. Daichi like slyly smiles at Kuro and Kuro you know he makes that jab and he's like and then he's like oh, are you nervous? And Daichi is like I think talking too much is a sign of nerves. Kuro-san, like they go, Daichi-san and Kuro-san.
rainbow
43:00
Here's the thing the dub ships it Because the dub has Kuro say something along the lines of like oh, my dear Daichi, are you nervous? Yeah, he says my dear Daichi.
43:13
They want each other carnally, they do Daichi. They want each other carnally, they do I. That was like I here's. The thing is I kind of forgot the like the the order of events here. So I knew they were seeing a bunch of people and I didn't know, after Tsukishima and Bokuto, who was next. Oh, who are they gonna see next? But as soon as I saw that little smirk on Daichi's face, I was like, oh, I thought it was gonna be just Kuro. I didn't even realize it was gonna be be all of Nekoma. But it basically could have just been Kuro and Daichi in that room in that moment, because they only had eyes for each other.
em
43:41
They have chemistry. I don't know what to tell you they do. So. Then the announcement comes over the speaker, it's time to start and the band music is the same as the theme music, which is fun. Uh, Takeda reminds Ukai to be calm in this moment and we have the boys walking onto the stage. Daichi has like their school flag or whatever, and is marching along, and Hinata is looking nerve. Oh, actually, before they march on, Hinata looks nervous and is holding his stomach and even though Kageyama is standing in front of him, he senses it and asks if he has to go to the bathroom again. If there's one thing about Kageyama, he's keeping tabs on Hinata's tummy, not.
rainbow
44:17
Kageyama, like just knowing, yeah, Even though his back is to him, he's like I just know Hinata is back there being nervous and he's like got to go to the bathroom again and he's just like shut up, he got the poops.
em
44:30
Honestly, stage fright shits are so real. The one time I was able to like be in a play at school, I genuinely was like clenching my butthole backstage because I thought I was gonna shit. Also felt the same exact way when I was waiting for you to land the first time we met at the airport like I was going to poop myself.
rainbow
44:47
I remember you like telling me that like I think I like called you to be like okay, I'm like coming down, where are you? And I think you told me you were like I feel like I have to shit I'm so glad I told you. I'm so glad you felt comfortable telling me that because I loved it and it honestly made me feel like I was able to like laugh and be a little less nervous if only I had an I'm awesome video to watch oh my god, you should have.
45:06
You should have just read through all of like the best moments of our like texting. Oh my god, looked at some of my nudes you can cut that part out.
em
45:16
I would like. I'm tempted to get into the whole story, but one day we'll talk one day.
rainbow
45:19
One day, yeah. So how do we end this episode?
em
45:22
basically, uh, they all like line up and Hinata is looking doki doki as hell and he like narrates it's starting the battle on the orange court and that's it oh my gosh, it's's national.
45:35
We made it. We're here. We're here, boys and girls and everybody in between. All right, so now time for manga versus anime. This episode covers chapters 229 to halfway through 231. I pulled the panel from Kiyoko and I actually tweeted this on our Fly HQ Pod Twitter because I just think it goes incredibly hard. We have Kiyoko saying to the boys even if you don't make any wishes or prayers, you're still going to win. I want to print this out and put on the wall.
rainbow
46:03
I think that we should. I think that it like nothing would gas me up more. Like I get why the boys like cried and cheered when she said this to them. Like it really does, like it looks really good. I think the art is really good. Her eyes are very intense. It like, honestly, is giving me the feeling of like oh well, now I actually have to win or mommy will be disappointed.
em
46:21
Well, furudate really has a way of like drawing certain panels when the characters say life changing lines, and this is one of them.
rainbow
46:28
I think it's one of the things that makes Haikyuu feel so powerful as a manga.
em
46:33
And a little detail I noticed is that Hinata this is not shown in the anime, but he has posters of volleyball players in his room. You're gay. I also took the time to in the manga and in the sub. I don't know, do they use the term pilgrimage in the show when they talk about going to the shrine?
rainbow
46:51
I don't think they did no.
em
46:52
So they keep using the word pilgrimage and I thought that was an interesting word to use. So I looked it up and it said a journey made to a sacred place as an act of religious devotion.
rainbow
47:01
Oh, that's so interesting. I mean, I guess technically what they are doing is pilgrimage.
47:06
I mean, I think of like the pilgrimage to Mecca that happens once a year in the Muslim world. That happens once a year in the Muslim world. I'm a little confused now. Why the Protestants who left England? Like, why the Puritans? Why they're called pilgrims? Because they weren't coming to a. I mean, I guess they were leaving for religious reasons, but like I don't know, I think that's probably part of the like white supremacy, eurocentric like viewpoint. I think that's why're called the pilgrims.
47:38
It feels like that comes from, like our like weird history and the way we've, like, idolized our the colonization that we did here.
em
47:44
Yeah, and the last thing I wanted to note with the manga is um, the Niiyama team, are nicknamed the queens. Hinata says oh, that's the queen when they run into Kanoka. They have been the national rep for the girls team for years, for Miyagi. Why we get so little of them, I don't know.
rainbow
48:03
I just like I want like a whole manga series about Niyama. Like I want, I want to know more. I just think you know it's it's a shonen anime, so it's about boys and it's for boys and we can't show them a girls team, like that's not gonna be nearly as interesting. Yeah, and it's just, and I mean honestly, the manga it feels like gives us even more than the anime does, and so the anime like even cut it out even more and it's like these girls are badass, they make it all about this connection with Tanaka, which I could not care less about.
em
48:35
you guys, I'm so sorry. If you're really invested in that storyline, get ready for us to not talk about it that much because it's so dumb.
rainbow
48:42
Yeah, we probably won't get into it too deeply, except for me to maybe go on a little bit of a feminist rant.
em
48:47
But we'll get there when we get there, All right. Well, that's it for manga versus anime. Now on to character spotlight. Who are we talking about today? Rainbow?
rainbow
48:54
I thought we'd talk about everyone's favorite cousin, Komori.
em
48:58
Moitoya, number one libero, number one cousin.
rainbow
49:03
Yes, so I couldn't find a character sheet for him for some reason. Maybe he's just like so background. They didn't give him one, but I did have. I do have a lot of other information Komori Motoya, um, a little bit about his personality from the wiki. He appears to have a friendly and outgoing personality. He encourages and admires other players at the training camp and even strikes up a conversation with Kageyama when he sees him at nationals, which I do love.
49:27
That moment, I love getting to see our sweet little blueberry who's like, so like socially constipated. All the time is like he has like somebody to talk to and it's so natural and normal, um, and I just really feel like a storyline that's like more quiet and in the background but Kageyama coming out of his shell and becoming more like friendly, I think is so important. I think this season really shows that. Um, okay, so getting on to the name, meaning his family name is Komori and it means old forest, and then his given name is Motoya and it means origin and to be, and then I couldn't find a character sheet, but I do have some trivia from the wiki. His star sign is Leo, which I kind of see that for him.
em
50:07
Yeah.

He was shown in Volleyball Monthly for being the number one high school Libro, meaning that he's even better or just as good as Nishinoya Well he knew not to block the back attacks run up and Noya didn't.
em
50:19
So that's the difference there.
rainbow
50:21
There you go. That's very true. I wonder if he how good he is at uh, overhand passes as well. Um, and then it is confirmed that he shares the same class level as his cousin Sakusa. He is the oldest, second year on his team and, according to the final guidebook, he used to be an outside hitter until junior high. However, he was with Sakusa during that time and thought that he couldn't beat him overall, so he turned to the Libro position to compete in defense. Fascinating, that is fascinating. I think we'll get a little. I think in the time skip we get a little bit more about Sakusa and Komori, and so we'll see what goes on there when the cousin reveal happened. We'll see that. All right, do you have anything you want to add about our little Libro and his cute little eyebrows?
em
51:03
I was just gonna say, I like his eyebrows and. I love his boyfriend, cousin Sakusa. I love you all right moving on time for the world's favorite game. It's who in Haikyuu. This week's scenario is brought to you by us and I'm so sorry for you guys if you don't watch Love Island. Bear with us, but this is how would each character behave if they were on Love Island. Also, I kind of want to get into like some headcanons about the characters.
rainbow
51:29
This is really. This is just going to be a full on. Like this is because here's the thing Em and I watch things and then we kind of always do a little bit of a who and Haikyuu scenario, and so I have been thinking about this for the last week and a half, so this is just going to be all the thoughts we've had.
em
51:42
Can I just tell my Kagehina AU?
rainbow
51:44
I want you, please do.
em
51:45
I love it. So I imagine that Kagehina are both OGs and that they are attracted to each other right away and they have some chats and they are coupled up right away, but then they start to clash because of Kageyama's bad communication and that they just have that kind of fighting compatibility.
rainbow
52:04
And I think something that would contribute to that is that Hinata would be constantly being pulled for chats. People would always want to talk to him.
em
52:10
Hinata would be like a Cierra. Everyone from season seven, everyone wants a piece, and I think that would kind of annoy Kageyama, but I also don't think Kageyama is a super jealous type, but anyway. So then they decide to like break off because they're not getting along, and Atsumu would be a bombshell who would enter the villa and take Hinata away for a little while, and Kageyama would end up with someone else, I don't really know who.
rainbow
52:36
I think I could see. I think it would be fun if Kageyama ended up with Oikawa at one point, and that's just like the kind of couple where, like, maybe there's an initial like, okay, we'll get together just to, like, you know, stay safe, but like it does not work out very well and quickly turns toxic. I think Atsuma would. I think before he went to Hinata, he'd go to Kageyama and he'd maybe pull him for a chat and I think he'd be like between trying to pick between them, but he'd ultimately go with Hinata.
em
53:02
Well, I think Atsumu would be the type of bombshell that would really give everyone a try, a little ride around the parking lot, but would end up with Hinata Because, like, Hinata is just is great, like everyone just loves him and he's hot and has a great personality. And then I think there would come a time where Kageyama would be like no, you know what, I'm really not feeling anyone else. I do want to try Hinata again and he kind of like is pursuing him, and then maybe Atsumu dumps Hinata for like, maybe Sakaza joins the villa or something and they find their way back to each other and they do have an intense compatibility and they win. Thank, thank you, I think they win.
rainbow
53:33
I think it would be fun if, like, they got back together and then Kasa, more happened and then I don't know who would come in to maybe potentially like steal them away. But I think that would be fun.
em
53:42
I think BoKuro would be great bombshells to enter together.
rainbow
53:45
They would absolutely enter together. No, you're so right, bokudo and Kuro would absolutely come in as bombshells together. I think they would come in during one of the like sexy, like kinky kind of challenges, like the most like kink light challenges you'll ever see, but still like the like hetero version of BDSM. No, totally agree. So yeah, I kind of just listed out a bunch of characters. I just I do like that idea of them as a couple, like I also kind of want to look at other couples, like I think BokuAka would lock in really early, yeah, um, and I think they would almost be. It would almost be to a point where it's like maybe they're playing it too safe.
em
54:19
BokuAka would be such a ship because I think BoKuro would be so boisterous and he'd come in with a lot of energy and like hook up with people, but then, like him and Akashi have like a real connection and Akashi's been kind of like single or maybe like in a, in a very meh couple.
rainbow
54:32
I could seem like maybe he like went with like Kenma or something or like. Maybe even him and Kageyama is like, but really we're just kind of a friend. Yeah, totally, I could see that I'm trying to think of any other couples. I think Saku Atsu would be like the couple that's bringing the drama. I think Atsu would go like full huda.
em
54:49
I think, yeah, Sakusa would really play it kind of cold and maybe keep like saying, oh, we're open, when Atsumu was like, no, I'm ready to lock you down yeah, absolutely, um okay.
rainbow
55:01
And then just individual characters. Like I think I already mentioned, I think Hinata would be very popular. I think everyone would want to talk to him. I think if he like as an OG or if he came in as a bombshell, I think he would like fucking blow some shit up if he came in as a bombshell. I think he would like fucking blow some some shit up if he came in as a bombshell there are.
em
55:16
I have yet to see a ginger on love island.
rainbow
55:17
I'm just saying you know, and they do have so much diversity as far as, like, they don't have any body diversity. They all have the same body types, um, but like yeah, no, I, because I I was thinking about that, I was like they do a really good job of not just having, like, blonde hair, blue eyes. Yes, you know, like there is a lot of like there's darker hair, but yeah, no gingers no, gingers, redheads are bombshells, just saying people are people.
em
55:41
I've been fetishized, okay, that's all I'm gonna say.
rainbow
55:43
Yeah honestly, I mean, um okay, Tsukishima, I think would not do very well on a love island.
em
55:49
I literally I can't see Tsukiyama on love island.
rainbow
55:52
I can't see it either. I think, if anything, they would like couple up and lock in really early and then like both get sent home because they're like not exploring other couples.
em
56:00
They're watching it and Yamaguchi's really invested in Tsuki keeps voting in a troll type of way.
rainbow
56:05
Oh, my god, I love that. I love that. Oh, that is I didn't even think about that like who's like? Oh, I listened to the, a podcast called Game of Roses, where they talk about these kinds of shows as if they're like a sports game. It's really fun and the audience watching on TV is the fourth audience, so I think Tsukiyama would absolutely be in the fourth audience. Yeah, I think Yachi would be so nervous being in love. I think she'd be like really nervous and really cute. I could see like her and Hinata maybe coupling up as like friends oh yeah, that's the thing too.
em
56:34
I'm kind of picturing. It's just all the guys I am too it would be a good like split of girls and guys it would be difficult.
rainbow
56:40
Yeah, I'm kind of thinking. The way I picture it is like this is just a very like queer yeah setting and there's like some bisexuals. It is hard because it's like we don't really know enough about the other girls. And then Kiyoko would. Obviously I could see her coming in as a bombshell that everyone wants to talk to, but then her and Yachi end up together. Obviously. Oh, love that. DaiSuga. Do we think they'd be fourth audience or do you think they'd be on Love Island?
em
57:02
They would be on and I could see them having maybe a slower story, like their friend vibes, and maybe like maybe Daichi really falls for the bombshell, kuro and Suga's with someone else for a little while.
rainbow
57:20
But I think like they would have be a slow burn. Yes, okay, Asahi, Asahi's coming in, I think.
em
57:23
Noya and Tanaka would come in as a bombshell, as pairs? I think yes, and it's kind of an unspoken rule that the bombshells don't really date each other. They come in and they fuck up stuff for the OGs, but I could see like especially Asahi coming in and he's like this tall Greek God type of guy, but then he's so like shy and introverted that maybe like he kind of gets forgotten about and Noya and him really do end up connecting. Yeah, I could totally see that.
rainbow
57:45
Um, it's hard for me to picture Kenma being on the show. Yeah, I don't know about that.
em
57:50
I mean, like I could see Kenma being like not trying very hard, and then Kuro's like I want, I think.
rainbow
57:57
Kenma is a producer. Oh yeah, kenma is a producer. He's like, yeah, he's like speaking into the. He's because I've heard that on Love Island they have like speakers set up around the villa and like producers will come in and be like, stop talking about that. I mean, I don't have a confirmation of that, but that is what I have heard and I totally believe that. I think because Kinma think about him, he is like he's all about strategy. I think he would be like I could see him being like executive producer of this shit. He is like deciding early on OK, these are the winners, here's how we're going to tell the story.
em
58:25
Yeah, and then I also put Ushi-Ten on this list just because, like like Ushijima would be another one where, like he's very hot but then like he's kind of maybe boring or like hard to like read or talk to. And then Tendo like I feel like Ushijima would be a bombshell and Tendo would be an original and he's having trouble connecting with people because he's weird and then they're like an unlikely couple absolutely.
rainbow
58:48
I think, yeah, I think, I think maybe it's like I think Ushijima would come in and everyone would be like, oh my God, he's so he is like an Adonis. But then they'd be like he's literally talking about advertisements right now. He'd be like it's like if. It's like if Connor and Cordell like had a baby. Just like you don't have a clown nose, you have your nose.
em
59:09
You have your nose? Yeah, no, I could see Oikawa approaching usha jima and being really interested in him at first.
rainbow
59:17
Then being like, oh like, like kind of like leah and connor, very much, very much so. Oh my god, Oikawa and Iwaizumi I think they okay, actually they're like the huda and jeremiah where, like Oikawa and Iwaizumi are like they're, they're the back and forth, they are like breaking up and getting back together and Iwaizumi is trying other things. I think Oikawa would say he wants to be open, but he doesn't fucking mean that shit. And Iwaizumi is like okay, if you want to be open, I'll really try it. And then, as soon as Iwaizumi goes like kisses anyone else in a challenge, Oikawa was like excuse me, yep, yeah. And then very important question who's the dramatics?
em
59:56
If Kuro wasn't on the show, he could be an after sun person.
rainbow
59:58
I could also see him being the host. I could see that. I could see that too. I think Takeda would be a fun host just because of the way he'd be like. So I think he'd be like really nice like Ariana is. But I think he also has that like. He has that ability to be like okay, now things are cooking. Yeah, all right, I don't, I do. We have anything else we want to say it's time to leave the island. We've all been dumped. I mean, listen, one day do I want to write fan fictions based on my favorite reality TV shows? Yeah, I would. Will that ever happen? Who knows?
em
01:00:25
I'm gonna have to write fix it fic for Nicolandria if they keep fucking around All right. Now on to our socials. You can find us on Twitter, instagram, tumblr and Blue Sky at FlyHQPod. That's F-L-Y-H-Q-P-O-D. You can also send us an email and tell us what new bombshells have entered the villa in FlyHQPod at gmailcom F-L-Y-H-Q-P-O-D at gmailcom.
rainbow
01:00:49
And now we're going up to the spoiler zone. Oh man, this would have been the perfect opportunity to change the spoiler zone and you could fully do a villa. Maybe next time.
em
01:01:09
I was thinking we could do it for the rest of the season. You wrote should we talk about how natsu ends up going to Niiyama? Yes, we should, because the way I want a spin-off about natsu in Niiyama and like the art of all those girls, I'm so interested I need to see yeah, I think it's fucking badass like, and I'm sure that she goes to nationals with Niiyama um, because she's fucking badass and that team is amazing I bet natsu's even better than Hinata. I wouldn't be surprised.
rainbow
01:01:37
Should we talk about kanoYachi? I think we should. I think we can maybe talk about it more in a later episode, but I just want to bring it up. I just want to like recognize now that Kanoka is in the picture. Like we know, Tanaka and Kiyoko end up together and I do understand why people would ship, like the person who's in love with Tanaka and the person who's in love with Yachi, like I like the idea that they like met at the Tanakiya wedding and they get together and like I would like to. I think that's a ship I could explore. It's just, we don't really see them interact at all, so it's like I don't actually know what their vibe would be Like. I don't really know how they would get along.
em
01:02:15
But I could see Yachi being like, oh, like, oh, my god, this big, tall amazonian volleyball player. I love her. Yeah, I like that, okay. And then for the last one, we talked about how Tsukki kagehina have this chance to bond and they do become friends because they go to brazil together.
01:02:23
Yeah, there's like moment of them, like in front of the, in front of the, the jesus statue, yeah, which I think is really cute, like that's why, like when I see fics, where, like they're not friends, like that, like that's just I, that's just not canon it's.
rainbow
01:02:38
it is simply not Tsukki's just not nice. But they're friends. Yeah, they've like they've trauma bonded together. You've never had a friend. That's just not nice. We all have. And you know what, if you don't have a friend, that's just not nice. It might be you.
em
01:02:53
All right, I think that concludes everyone's night.
rainbow
01:02:58
I think we're done All right, and I think by the time this episode comes out, love Island will maybe already be done, or around that time. So but right now, where we are, we're like what? Episode 23 is coming out tonight. Who knows what's going to happen.
em
01:03:10
All right Islanders, we'll. What's gonna happen, all right islanders, we'll see you next week and until then, fly high. Make some good connections.
